Enjoying My Quiet Time

in #ulog4 years ago

Tuesdays are my busy days.

On top of my usual mom routine, I have extra activities for the kids, and we have rec center time. '80s video games, basketball games, foosball, air hockey and giant connect four awaits us. I play with them, my big belly in the way, and the boy slaps it lightly whenever he scores. I think he believes he's giving his sister a high five.

There are things around the house watching me, waiting for me to give them attention, but I decided to sit and enjoy some quiet time anyway.

Maybe one of these days I will train my brain into enjoying quiet time while doing dishes or putting laundry away. I used to enjoy quiet time that way, but then again, I was really good at ignoring. Now, since I am living the single parent life, ignoring doesn't fare so well. There's no one else to pick up where your ignoring fell off.

If I am honest, my husband does a much better job of ignoring than I do, so ignoring often meant that I had to pick up extra pieces (literally, stuff tends to break when noone is paying attention, and crumbs get places they shouldn't be and orange peels multiply).

Now, I don't let myself ignore. Basically, I don't have the excuse of what "he should" be doing so I take on all the responsibilities. Maybe life would have been nicer if I would have just admitted to myself that all the responsibilities were mine from the beginning and didn't try to make him share in the kid watching...

It feels great to be outside. Maybe a little bit too bright, but I am not complaining about it - maybe I will complain in August, but for now, it just feels good on my skin. I can feel myself getting darker and I love it. Warmth does me well and color looks good on me.

I had a bought of nosyness today

It wasn't a big one, but definitely a great reminder to mind my own business. One of my fellow homeowners doesn't have a mailbox key and was trying to get her husband to replace it.

I let her know that it was illegal, I showed her the USPS stamp on our mailbox, showed her the USPS engravement on all of our locks, and let her know that she could really get in trouble for messing with the lock.

Then, as I was walking up my stairs, I realized that it doesn't really matter. This woman does not have a good solution for getting her mail, the people at the post office are being extra unhelpful, the mailman told her to "just change it" and she needs her mail.

What is really going to happen? Nothing. Who is really going to notice a different lock and persecute? Nobody.

But there I was, citing the law to her, trying to be a good neighbor and ending up being just a nosy neighbor who have another block to her solution finding.

Metzli, mind your own business. Really though. Sometimes it is best to keep your mouth shut and information to yourself. It's not like they were asking me.

Hope you are all having a lovely day. This is my ULOG and I enjoyed sharing it with you.
