Hey sugar, I want to tell you something i don't know if you are free now or should we leave it for later? Gold asked.
"No, I'm free. This sugar is new though" Mark replied.
"Uhmm, you don't like it? i won't do it again if you are against it" Gold asked.
"No, i like it. I was just a little surprised. So what's up?" Mark asked.
Ehmm, i know it's only been seven months since i wished you a happy birthday and since then we've hit it off. The truth is that, I've had a crush on you longer than that and i was looking for an opportunity to text you, your birthday was that opportunity. I met you for the first time when I was in Nigeria. When i attended your church and your younger sister introduced us. I wanted to know you on a personal level since then but i was shy, i didn't want you to think less of me or think that I'm desperate. The truth is this Mark, i love you and I want us to be more than friends. I understood from our previous discussions that you aren't in any relationship, i know you adore your best friend Sylvia and I'm not going to come in between you guys. I just want to be more to you. You are already more to me, i want it to be mutual. So.... Ehmmm.... What do you think?
There was a pause because Mark had wanted a little time before he ask Gold to be his best friend. It had been a week since he spoke to Sylvia after their last arguement. This came sooner than expected amd he wasn't prepared. Before you could respond, he heard a knock on his door, which served as the perfect excuse for him now. "Can i give you my response later, i have a guest?" He asked.
"Yeah, its fine take your time sugar" Gold responded.
Sugar... That name just put a smile on his face although he didn't even know it. He walked up to the door without asking who it was because he was expecting his plumber right at that time due to his kitchen sink was clogged.
"Sylvia, what are you doing here?" He asked.
"And since when did you start asking me that question?" She asked in return. If the mountain refuses Mohammed, Mohammed will have to go to the mountain. I would have come sooner if work had permitted me, I had to sneak out. It's been a week since you've visited me and i have been calling and texting but you have ignored all my calls and text. Why? What have i done to deserve this kind of treatment? She asked.
"Isn't it clear to you now that i have feelings for you? I just don't want to deceive myself that i don't, so I'm distancing myself till i can concentrate on our friendship." He said.
You know, this is what I've been avoiding. The distance that will come in between us if we date and breakup. I may actually loose you forever because it will never be the same. We may end up hating each other depending on the cause of the breakup. You are already giving me distance. So, how much time should i give you before you come back to me? She asked.
"Gold asked me to be her boyfriend." He just blurted it out to watch Sylvia's reaction.
"Wow, that was faster than i expected" she said.
"You were expecting it?" Mark asked.
"Yeah, i was. No lady in her right mind would just want to tell you happy birthday without wanting more from you" she replied.
"So, if i tell her yes, you won't be hurt?" Mark asked.
"Ray asked me out yesterday too, if i tell him yes, will i loose you too?" She asked in return.
The truth is that we won't be that close anymore. Because Ray won't want you to be that close to me. Gold may say its okay to her but she won't like it too. So we will have to be friends but we won't be close again. So, what do you think? Mark asked. I know this though, i know that I want to be more than friends with you. I don't know how you feel because you've managed to convince me otherwise that you don't see me that way.
So I will speak from my end. If i give Gold a chance, i will still be your friend but due to the feelings i have for you, i won't want to hurt Gold by being close to you again. So tell me, what do you think? Mark asked.
There was a brief pause.
I love you Mark. I mean since i could remember, i have always loved you maybe that was why I was scared to say anything to you. What if you didn't feel the same way? Finally when i figured you felt the same way, I was then scared of what may Happen if we gave our feelings a chance. If would shatter me if the relationship doesn't work out. And I wasn't ready to loose you yet or ever.
God knows that it would be my biggest regret if i don't tell you how i feel but i could indure that compared to not having you at all in my life.
If i say yes, what then? Sylvia asked.
"I don't know what the future holds but i know this for sure that i am ready to spend every waking moment with you. Give us a chance and stop betting our happiness on what if's. I love you Sylvia and i never will." Mark said
So, what will you tell Gold? Sylvia asked.
The truth. That i am in love with you and you've given me a chance to prove my feelings for you. So over to you, what will you tell Ray? He asked in return.
Uhmmm, Ray didn't ask me out. I just said that to cover my jealousy although he asked me out on a date tonight, i haven't given him my response yet.
We both know you will tell him No right? Mark asked.
Sylvia smiled. Is that jealousy looks on you my baby? I'm all yours.
That really messed Mark up, he couldn't believe what he just heard. My baby, he was an adult man but he really love how sweet that sounded coming from Sylvia's lips
So, I'm you girlfriend right? Sylvia asked
So, I'm your boyfriend right? Mark asked in return.
Yes. They both replied holding hands with smiles on their faces.
