Hate it when that happened. Mine started to have a crack in the ceiling only when it was 10+ years. My inlaws were 20 over years when that happen. Some years ago, they manage to get it done for free. Must be election year then. :-)

Now HDB pay half the price and we pay half the price. Quite reasonable price too. The HDB officers will come and have a look first, then they will send a contractor to come and inspect. After that they will submit the price to HDB, HDB will then let you know how much to repair, and the amount we have to pay. It is up to us to accept it or not. If we think it's too expensive, then we can call our own contractors to do. But we will have to pay for the whole thing ourselves.
It depends on how big the patch is. But it is definitely much more expensive. Easiest way is to just go to HDB. 😊
