I would like to show you today not one of the most beautiful and iconic American coins, but one of its so many copies.
Almost everyone that stack silver has at least one of these copies. They were minted by several different non-official mints and usually have 1oz of 99.9% silver.
I liked the round that I will show you because is is pristine and very similar to the original coin.
Unfortunately I have no way to identify the mint because there is nothing written on the surfaces or on the edge.
The original coin was a gift from my Secret Santa last Christmas. It was designed by James Earle Fraser and was produced for circulation from 1913 to 1938.
The obverse shows a composite profile of Iron Tail, an Oglala Sioux chief, Big Tree, a Kiowa chief and Two Moons, a Cheyenne chief.
The reverse shows what was supposed to be "Black Diamond" (1893-1915), a famous bison at the Central Park Zoo in New York City.
