# 694 - Buffalo Round

in LeoFinance4 years ago

I would like to show you today not one of the most beautiful and iconic American coins, but one of its so many copies.

Almost everyone that stack silver has at least one of these copies. They were minted by several different non-official mints and usually have 1oz of 99.9% silver.

I liked the round that I will show you because is is pristine and very similar to the original coin.

Unfortunately I have no way to identify the mint because there is nothing written on the surfaces or on the edge.

The original coin was a gift from my Secret Santa last Christmas. It was designed by James Earle Fraser and was produced for circulation from 1913 to 1938.

The obverse shows a composite profile of Iron Tail, an Oglala Sioux chief, Big Tree, a Kiowa chief and Two Moons, a Cheyenne chief.

The reverse shows what was supposed to be "Black Diamond" (1893-1915), a famous bison at the Central Park Zoo in New York City.

Yes, The Indianhead Buffalo Nickel has to be the most replicated coin out there. I have seen maybe seven different Silver copies of Silver .999 Bullion Ozs by some prominent mints. When I was a child, in the 1950s the Buffalos $.05 were still in circulation. Most were well worn and dateless, but a nice one popped up every so often. Its nickel/copper content reached a nine cents valve a few years ago and today it's still intrinsically worth over four cents. Nickels are the realist money out there. It cost the US Government about ten cents to produce one. I save them from my change and have not spent one in years. The Bison's horn is one of the first places to show wear. Yours is shape and clear. Thanks for sharing Ronaldoavelino.

I have a few 1oz copper rounds, just to stack copper, silver and gold, but I never thought about keeping the nickels. That is a wonderful idea! Thank you!

A favorite in my Father's collection is a hand full of buffalo nickels so I topped that off with the Silver and copper round.

To me, it is the most iconic American coin.

I like the side by side comparison. Do you have any of the real nickels that have been carved by artists? I know it ruins the coin but some of the artwork is really cool.

The Hobo nickels? No, I don't have any but I have seen some photos of some beautifully made...

Big fan of the buffalo coins and rounfs. Im dying for the gold buffalo coin

Instead of the original $.05 coin, I could have posted the 2001-D $1 Commemorative.

Interesting that it has a "D" under the Five Cents...I wonder if that could tell you the mint?
The Mrs loves Buffalo rounds, she will want more now LOL!!!!🤗

It is the Mint mark. D is Denver Mint.
