SteemitBoard knock out by hardfork

in #steemitboard6 years ago (edited)

SteemitBoard need your help!

Over time, the @steemitboard project has grown in popularity and enjoys an excellent reputation in the community.

@steemitboard badges and notifications are not only appreciated by regulars users, but especially by newcomers because it is an excellent motivating factor, which encourages them to stay on the platform. As proof, the many positive replies from users after receiving a notification.

Here are some examples:

4000 notifications and 2000 upvotes per day

@steemitboard sends a large number of different notifications, especially when:

  • you have reached your next target for the various achievements that SteemitBoard monitor for you (posts, comments, upvotes, …)
  • you are active in a community
  • it's your birthday on Steemit
  • you participate in a contest
  • you participate to events organised by SteemitBoard
    and many other reasons ...

Moreover, to boost and support users, @steemitboard regularly upvotes the posts on which notifications are sent.

You can see a complete detail of this activity in Steemitboard’s latest witness report

Steemitboard has a lot of new features that are ready to be deployed and we were eagerly waiting for the HF20 and its new feature to pop them out, but …

The last hardfork beat up SteemitBoard

Guess you've all suffered (and still suffer) from the terrible restrictions imposed by the recent change with HF20 in accounting for your use of the blockchain: the infamous Resource Credits and Voting Manabar.

As a result, not only did we all find ourselves unable to make transactions (posts, comments, upvotes, ...) but in addition our ability to interact was greatly diminished!

In the case of @steemitboard, it's pretty disastrous. A quick glance at its current status allows to realize it:

At full charge, @steemitboard will only be able to send 345 notifications OR to upvote 1584 of your posts. And remember that full charge requires 5 days to complete!

This means that, to stay fully operational on the long term, @steemitboard should limit itself to sending 69 notifications a day and should abstain from voting for your post as it used to do.

All this to say that with these limitations, SteemitBoard is knocked out!

SteemitBoard need your help to survive

SteemitBoard is running for nearly 2 years now.

@steemitboard never powered down, in order to increase its effect on both your reputation and your reward when it upvote your posts.

Thanks to YOUR upvotes to support the project, its Steem Power has slowly raised over time.

SteemitBoard also runs a witness node, which provides it with a few extra (thin) SP each day, but none of them have been powered down and it would currently not be enough to cover the infrastructure and team costs (3 people are involved in the projet: @arcange, @techybear and @captaink).

All this to say that without any help, SteemitBoard will stay on the ground!

Here are some quick calculations:

At current RC-Cost for comment, each notification requires 7.03 SP and each upvote requires 1.53 SP.

Therefore, sending the same amount of notifications (~4000) and upvoting the same number of posts (~2000) as of today requires at least 31174 Steem Power. And it goes without saying that it is a lower limit. Indeed, we all hope that the number of users and the activity on the platform will grow and @steemitboard's activity is proportional to this growth.

With less than that, this means that sooner or later @steemitboard will run out of mana and will be unable to transact unless it stops its activities to reload.

How can you help?

Here is how you can help me keep SteemitBoard alive:

1. Vote for @steemitboard as a witness

Free of charge action! Witnesses are paid by the platform for the work they do. By voting for @steemitboard as a witness, you will ensure a small but steady revenue that will be entirely allocated to the project.

vote for @steemitboard as a witness

2. Make a donation

You can transfer or power up some STEEM to @steemitboard. Transfer as many as you can/want. Any amount will help. Small drops make big rivers!

3. Delegate Steem Power

This is the fastest way to raise @steemitboard's Steem Power. By doing this, you will

  • enable @steemitboard to continue to entertain people on Steemit.
  • enable @steemitboard to support more effectively active people on the platform. Read this post to see how this happens.

As a delegator, you will get a return on your investment by receiving more powerful upvotes from @steemitboard when you receive one of its notification.

SP DelegationDelegator Benefits
100 SP2% upvote
250 SP5% upvote
500 SP10% upvote
1000 SP20% upvote
>2000 SP40% upvote

PS1: delegation requirements and voting power values might be subject to change depending on available voting power.
PS2: @steemitboard reserves the right to stop upvotes for accounts demonstrating abusive behavior.

Finally, rest assured that we appreciate the unfailing support that all of you have brought us. All your replies are read, but can often not be replied by the @steemitboard account because this one is busy sending notifications. That's why you may received an answer from one of the team members.

Fun must go on! Thanks for reading and for your help!

UPDATE1: The SteemitBoard website and its infrastructure are still working and the information and badges displayed are up-to-date. This means that you will receive your new badges as expected.
The only processes on hold are notifications and upvotes.

UPDATE2: The latest HF fix deployment (v0.20.5) had some positive effect on @steemitboard's available resources. We have been able to reactivate some notifications (level change, personal badges, community badges).
We will monitor your RC consumption and see how things evolve, but with current RC system values, we still need at least 17100 SP to be able to operate as before HF20.

Thank you all for your support!

Bam guys. Just delegated 100. @ana-maria have tagged me in a post calling my attention to this and I think You guys do a great job. Even if I don't get that many of the updates anymore and it is a small delegation I hope it will be helpful 😉❤️

@sergiomendes, you rock man! Thank you so much for your support!
Thanks to your help, we will be able to deliver more notifications.

You are welcome. I know it is not a lot. But also you guys have been here for a long time and have never done anything to wrong the community. So it is sad to see the project struggling. I know it is not a lot but well it is a beginning to start and turn that around. 😉❤️

Thanks, Sergio! I knew I could count on you! 😊
Btw - you are not getting that many updates just because as high as you climb every next level is harder to reach, and as far as I can see you are doing good! 😉👍😊

But it is all good. Today I have uploaded a post about Steem Power delegations and a video as well. Took the day to be focus on that 😉

Posted using Partiko Android

I visited both of them. 😉
And yeah, I know how it goes and especially how it feels when you make all prior needed research and preparation, create a post that sometimes takes another significant amount of time (especially for us to whom English is not first language), and then when you finally hit that "Post" or "Publish" button it turns out to be just a 2 or 3 minutes read. And above that all someone always manages to understand something wrong. 😂

But ned said everything was okay and that I was just bitching and downvoted me for calling him out on his post! Go take a look if you want proof! Guess we are both on the same side here! This HF20 FUCKED US ALL! Look at @blocktrades they were negative RC and couldn't even transact and lost $1,000s the last 2 weeks! But hey ned and steem said don't worry and downvote me for telling others how this update is a BAD move! I support you heres a 100% up vote!

Upvoting for visibility ;)

I heard you!
Waiting for some delegation to return, and then you can expect my support (unfortunately, not some huge one as I'm not that rich, yet but...) because I really do like the service that you provide!

Sorry being late to reply. Any help will be welcome. Thanks for your support @ana-maria

No problem!
Promised - Done!
100 SP Delegation

Thank you so much for your delegation @ana-maria. This is really helpful and appreciated!

Glad if it would help you just a bit to stay alive and support the community as you have been doing all along! 😊

I will tell you something: I was to turn off a bunch of notifications because @steemitboard was going to limbo with its RC. Then came your delegation. You saved @steemitboard yesterday!

WOW - I really didn't expect something like this. Of course, I'm glad to hear that but it still sounds unbelievable. 😲

I think we should do something more about it to raise the awareness about the situation. Will see what I can do. (Don't want to promise anything, but I'll try.)

Posted using Partiko Android

He he, I love when you use the word "promise", even in a negative form 😜

This is a very selfless project, and I really admire what the team does.

Question: How do you see how many comments/votes/transfers/powersups you can make? In a day? Mine currently states 100+ for each. I think I need a tutorial guide for regular joes on how to interpret the new steemd.com information.

It is a real shame to me that the average user is able to power-up much faster than steemitboard can, even though this team powers up everything they earn. When I looked at their wallet, I was flabbergasted that they are only a few hundred higher than my SP, even though I've only been here barely over year.

For some people, steemitboard is the only encouraging face they will interact with during their lifetime using steemit.

Not sure why this team does not qualify for some of that delegation that went to the lone rangers at d.live. Most users who did not use d.live never got to see a penny of their upvotes, whereas steemitboard undescriminately (except for clear abuse) upvotes everyone.

I may consider delegating some Steem since I had a good earnings month, and I have already been voting for you guys for witness. Your team's technology abilities are top knotch, you provide excellent communication services, and none of the drama and shady deals.

My hope is steemitboard can contiue to serve everyone equally, as designed.

Sorry for the longish comment. I want others to know that many people really do appreciate this project quite a bit even if they do not comment here to say so.

How do you see how many comments/votes/transfers/powersups you can make?

Got the screenshot from steemd.com. I guess @roadscape made it to display 100+ once you have more than hundred available operations. Not the best way to do and a bit confusing, IMHO

Not sure why this team does not qualify for some of that delegation
I guess this is because we do not focus on self promotion or licking asses (sorry for the language)

you provide excellent communication services, and none of the drama and shady deals.
Thank you for such a positive feedback. We should think about creating a "drama" badge 😂

Your comment makes us warm at heart. Thank you so much for your support @creativetruth

I so wish they would shift that delegation to Steemitboard! That would be a real community move.

well... i just wish you the best.. i just regular joe here doing nothing about technical sh@t....

Come on everybody. We can all spare some Steem for a good cause.

Hi
Thank you for the services you provide. I am always encouraged b the achievements I get from you.

6E298CC2-4F15-4F05-841E-32E6D7F0EFF2.gif

I will offer the support I can provide: I will vote for steemitboard for witness, I will upvote this post, I will resteem this post and I will delegate some SP.
I hope that Hard Fork 20, patch number four helps you a bit, but I can see how the price of comments really hurts a high volume commenter like you.

Why not asking the whales only? Why not asking the people who invented this "simplifying" new processes?
Reminds me to politics: The politicians screw up something and the taxpayers are asked to pay.

Where is it written that we do not ask for help from the whales?

Nowhere, but I don´t expect that you write what you *not" do, but rather what you do. Anyway, peace! Glad that you are reaching out to them as well.

So you need ~30k SP in order to resume normal-ish operations.... This should be possible given the large delegations given to other projects that do FAR less than you. Seems the good old "unintended consequences" bites again. This is an EXTREMELY common thing anymore and says a lot of our world.

I may not have much but I am sending a bit of steem your way for the cause.

You're right, ~30k SP is not that much in comparison to delegation made to other projects. I'm pretty upset with the dire consequences of this HF. This might kill the whole ecosystem aroung Steem blockchain.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your support @flemingfarm!

Just voted for @steemitboard as witness, hope that helps!

Sure, it will help. Thank you for your support @fw206!

I enjoy the posts that SteemItBoard leaves. For that matter, I actually visit SteemItBoard.com to see the status of my account.

I can see how some people would consider a bot that drops 4000 posts a day as a resource hog.

Perhaps the solution is to send fewer posts, but to make your wonderful web site more interactive.

So maybe we should only get sent a message for UPVOTED rewards and not the UPVOTE rewards. We could then follow the link on the message to wee the rest of our rewards.

Good luck adjusting to Hard Fork 20.

Perhaps the solution is to send fewer posts ...

This is difficult to achieve because there is no way to visibly notify users except by sending a comment on their posts.

4320 comments/day was the limit before HF20. Now it raised to 28800 comments/day (if you have enough RC). Anyway, even this last value seems insufficient to me if we all wish that there are several millions of daily active users.

The Steem blockchain lacks a notification (communication) mechanism (transaction) that can be used in a similar way by all clients (steemit.com, busy.org, eSteem, ...)

I thought about the @steemitboard problem. One solution would be to create a "welcome wagon" program.

SteemItBoard could create a list of people who are due an award. Steemians who have resource credits to spend could log into SteemItBoard.com , select names off the list then send the message for SteemItBoard.com

Steemians who join the welcome wagon committee would have a fun excuse to interact with other Steemians.

I wrote up a post and drew a little red wagon.

hopefully can help

... Steemitboard you took a big hit, Damn sending love when the delegations work. Was what I was posting yesterday but I ran out of RC's to comment lol.
Now that I can sending some support :)
Or I would still some bugs in HF20 ...

Sooner or later lol.

Wish i could help more.

Is your team considering limiting to certain notifications instead of others? It is hard to say which categories are most important to people.

One alternative is to make a post that displays all the people who earned each batch that day. It would show the badge and a paragraph underneath listing all the names from left to right. As long as they have notifications, or they check their mentions, they will find the post.

Badge for Number of Comments Made

@name1 @name2 @name3 @name4 @name5 @name6 @name7 @name8 @name9 @name10 @name11 @name12 @name13 @name14 @name15 etc.

Hopefully you guys can come up with some genius script to parse results in a similar way, or perhaps improve upon the way you have always been operating to make it require less resources on the blockchain.

That might work for experienced users who use @ginabot and stuff like that, but I don't think any new users would ever see the project if it comes to this solution.

We already do our best to limit the number of notifications we send to one user by grouping badges in the same comment and we give priority to "special badges" like birthday, personal, community or contest badges.

One alternative is to make a post that displays all the people who earned each batch that day

To be honest, this won't work because:

  • there are too much users who receive badges every day, and we should all expect that number to grow.
  • The list won't fit on one post or comment, or it will kind of TLDR;
  • newcomers do not know about @steemitboard and the badges incentive until they receive a notification on their post. That's why we receive so much reply like "Wow ... this is cool. I didn't know. Thank you".

This is sad SteemitBoard. You are responsible for a great deal of newbies feeling great being here - this Knight included. I will try to help but have already delegated widely. I hope a whale sees this and give you a hand.

SirKnight.

Thanks for your comment @sirknight.

Yes, we are newbies focused as we truly believe the strength of a network is made by the number of its participants. Doing our best to makes newcomers feeling at home and enjoy a free fun experience is one of our priority .

hello I'm a beginner I want to take part in your contest because I'm interested in wanting to follow it

Resteemed... We will delegate a little bit soon! The world needs SteemitBoard!

52 SP delegated tonight from our family (:

Thank you so much for your delegation @amvanaken. Really appreciated!

No problem! We hope to see Steemitboard stick around (:

Maybe you should make a badge for people who delegate at least a certain amount... I think that would definitely help bring in more SP real easy (: You made donating to @t-r-f fun with that new badge and who could forget the World Cup!

I would want to help, prolly in the future when I have saved power. For now, A comment and a resteem is all I can do. I am still manually doing math after everything. Hahaha! I hope Steemitboard continues to do what it has been doing and hopefully it gets the help it needs from everyone specially those who are capable of it. Thanks and have a wondeful day.

I've loved your work since i've joined steemit.
500 SP delegated and added steemitboard to witness list.
Keep going guys!

This is awesome @mcfarhat, thank you so much for your support!

Congratulations! Your post has been selected as a daily Steemit truffle! It is listed on rank 4 of all contributions awarded today. You can find the TOP DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS HERE.

I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 8 SBD worth and should receive 141 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.

Have you read the newest update from @steemitblog? They're giving everyone a 10x boost on RC, but leaving the RC costs of actions the same. My understanding is that these numbers are also not set, but will be changing as the system gets a more accurate picture of what happens on the blockchain (whether that will help or hurt... who knows)

Have you read the newest update from @steemitblog?

Of course, we read it. Even if the latest release had some positive effect, it's still not enough for @steemitboard to run as smooth as previously. Time will tell.

Thank you very much. Liked the publication

As a new user, i was really encouraged by your votes & comments.
voted you as a witness. Good Luck!!

I am very happy. Thanks for continuing this great Site Steemit and great full to you for your kind support.

Hi! This is great but idk how to use this.

Very Nice

Thanks for your information :-)

Thanks for your information :-)

I cannot upload images.

Is there a way to turn off you notifications on my posts? I find them rather annoying than helpful. Upvoting this for visibility!

It's clearly stated in the comment:

I hope you feel silly now.

I do, thank you :)
