Psalm 83
1 O God, do not remain silent;
do not turn a deaf ear,
do not stand aloof, O God.
2 See how your enemies growl,
how your foes rear their heads.
3 With cunning they conspire against your people;
they plot against those you cherish.
4 “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation,
so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”

Dear friends
This Psalm shows us that when enemies attack us we must turn to God in prayer. We can instigate that the psalmist gathers details of various crises. This conclusion is supported by the fact that a list of ten nations is made.
It indicates that in the crisis the only recourse is prayer. His intercessory prayer demonstrates two important axes: the great victories of times past and the desire for the glory of God.
The psalmist begins with a cry of urgency, asking that God not be inactive, in silence. Those who attack the people are enemies of God and try to destroy what belongs to him; so God must do something. The evil powers that attack the people of God, are enemies of him.
This psalm gives us the encouragement that the final word has God only we with fasting, prayer and reading of the Holy Scriptures will achieve victory and the light of his mercy shine in the world for a better tomorrow.

Let us ask God our Father to free us from the chains of oppression and to allow paths of dialogue and reconciliation to stop violence and wars in nations. In the name of Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.
