Enhanced games - Good or a bad Idea.

in #sports4 days ago

For those of you who don't know:

the Enhanced Games, a controversial new event (often called "doped-up athletics") that explicitly allows athletes to use performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) under medical supervision. Launched in 2024-2025, it's pitched as a "no-limits" alternative to traditional clean sport, with events in track & field, swimming, and more. The idea has sparked massive debate about ethics, health risks, and the future of athletics—especially since it directly challenges anti-doping bodies like WADA.

Basically it's just like regular athletics just with a few more drugs involved.

Will it be much more, who knows???
But we all know that the sports are already riddled with drugs across the board and that teams have been finding new ways to get around the rules for years.

It's a well documented fact.

So why not just let them use all the aids that they want and put everybody on a level field....

In theory it makes sense. I can see the vision behind the idea and to be honest would probably enjoy watching people compete at their very highest level without the sneaking and the hiding.

In reality it will probably show us who was already doping up since the opportunity has always been there for athletes but i can't see many people who have resisted the temptation for all of their career and fought against uneven odds suddenly deciding that they want to pump their bodies full of these poisons. Also it will probably lead to some serious health issues as the athletes will push their bodies more and more to try and win against others doing the same.

What are your thoughts on the idea........

Mmh, tough one. It is interesting to see what records these athletes will set. Probably not the best athletes in the world in their field. The question is what will happen is somebody dies during the competition.

So, not I am not a fan!

It takes away the illusion about clean sport and allows for monitoring of performance vs risk of what athletes are doing anyway.

In clean sports if you presume the best other athletes are doping then many athletes likely feel they have to dope to level the playing field. And the financial gain of winning appears to be worth the risks of being caught or health risks.

Enhanced games make it more transparent. I'll watch it especially with Irish involved and see what they can achieve with open doping.

Ireland takes pride in being clean but the results speak for themselves, we produce or import world class rugby players, produce golfers, once in a generation talent at rowing, boxing, swimming.
I personally knew athletes that competed for Ireland, but there's no living in it, journeymen making ends meet with a grant and part time job. There's pride in being honest and not doping and doing well in spite of knowing it's tilted against you and it's an honour for guys and girls to represent Ireland of course.

I suppose we're the best at hurling, gaelic football and having the craic.

Hope you have a good Christmas and New Year!

Nay for me, I wouldn't be encouraging open drug enhancement. It's unethical in my opinion and disrespectful to genuine athletes

Definitely Nay, especially when looked passed the entertainment angle. I wouldn't be able to relate/resonate with the athletes anymore if I know they've enhanced their systems to perform at such high levels.
