Now it won't be quite as big a deal as an All Ireland final in Croke park but it's still a massive achievement.
For an area the size of our to have a third adult team and for that team to make it all the way to the county final is a brilliant.
I live in the smallest of rural areas with one pub, one school, one pitch and not much else within twenty miles.
The team itself was only formed five months ago with the outcasts and rejects from years gone by.
Our coach who started it had planned on a social hurling experience but then when we started competing the team felt there was so much more that we could achieve.
I was pulled in from nowhere just before the competitive matches started and have been playing catch up ever since trying to built fitness and skill against lads who have been playing their whole lives.
We had the semi - final last weekend and while i wasn't need on the pitch this time around we got over the line by the slimmest of margins and a tough slog in windy conditions.
This was up against a team of young fit and hungry players. The majority of whom had an upcoming U-21 final that they have also been training for so fitness and skill was no issue.
Our team on the other hand had an average age of 39 for the starting line up and while the skill was there it's hard to keep pace with a bunch of kids full of life and running. We also had one youthful player of 18 which dragged our average age below the 40 mark, just about.
Our team has been dragged body and soul into each match by sheer force of will and no little amount of physio and recovery.
The dressing room before a game like a WW1 field hospital with the floor littered with strapping, bandages, deep heat and gels.
The fact that we can still field a team is almost a miracle with the attrition rate to date. Even this time we lost our corner back in the first two minutes with another player to follow ten minutes later.
It's hilarious and even the great Anthony Daly was talking about it on his podcast when delighted by the fact we have a third team and the fact that we have reached a county final is making waves.
The final was originally scheduled for this weekend but the powers that be wisely saw reason and allowed us to push it back an extra week to allow us the chance to patch up the team once more and have a fair chance at a trophy.
The excitement is building and the flags and bunting is going up. It doesn't matter what level you are playing at when you reach a county final, it just matter that you are there and representing your town and parish.
Most of our team have children in the school so it's a very local affair and will be a big weekend next whether we win or lose.
Either way it's bringing fun and excitement to the area and something to work towards.
It's funny as a newcomer to the area and to the team but seeing the flags going up does have an effect and being brought to the underage training for fun and photos means a lot to all of the players and kids of the families involved.
Now it's just head down for the next two weeks, lots of training and being ready if i'm called upon during the big match.
