The Selfie Challenge and A Decentralize Blockchain

I just came across the Selfie Challenge, and I thought I would join the fun.

How Hive will might revolutionize the world!

First, congrats to @nicollefiallo, @jeffjagoe, @sn0n, and @xxxxxxxxxx for creating a movement. Whether on purpose or not, that was quite the feat, and you have my respect for that.

Second, when there are rewards in play, the claws come out.

#Hive has the potential to change the world. Every one of us intentionally gathers in the same digital space because we have been positively impacted, in some way or other.

We choose #hive because of the project, the people, the vision, and honestly, the possibility of future rewards. What we are lacking (but working on) is a massive wave of new users who will propel #hive to a new height like a massive tidal wave.

Oh, boy! That will be a fun ride.

The potential is real. The promise is sweet, but we all have to work together to make this a reality (whether we like it or not).

The Problem

Plain and simply put, we all come for different reasons, we all value different things, and we all put up with different "garbage."

The beauty of our blockchain/community is also one of our biggest obstacles. We all have the right to show our approval and disapproval via our (down)votes. And this, my friends, can cause emotions to rise!

So this is how things play out.

  1. Someone comes up with a "great" post idea - Totally allowable in the #hive community
  2. Someone else wholly agrees that the post was great. They exercise their freedom/right to show support.
  3. Snowball effect! Tens, maybe hundreds, of other people agree.
  4. The results? Payout!
  5. Uh oh! The payout is noticeable! And people start to pay attention to the dollar signs.
  6. Other people find the idea to be less than great. So they exercise their freedom/right to show their disapproval.
  7. The post creator gets "offended" because he/she thought the post was great and expresses concern - completely acceptable. Even when not civil, still allowable.
  8. The downvoters still maintain their position - it may be your "treasure," but it is still my "trash."
  9. Optional, but not uncommon - Tensions continue to escalate. Feelings get hurt even more. And watch out ladies and gentlemen, we are in an all-out downvote war! Hide your kids. It is going to get ugly!

The Problem Is Beautiful (and Messy)

Step 1-8 (and Optional #9) are all part of the process. Each action and reaction is acceptable based on the rules of the blockchain. And whether we like it or not, these are "our" rules that we get to/have to play by.

Now I understand the rules because I have been around for almost three years. But the newbie off the street, he does not understand.

I know we all want to move towards Communities and Community-Based Tokens, but until we reach that goal, we all share the same space, the same community, and the same reward pool.

We will not agree on what makes content great. We will have to struggle to determine what types of short-form content deserve rewards. But remember, as we are making these critical decisions, we are all banking on that wave of new users that leads us to mass adoptions. They need us! We need them!

I enjoy your @definitions project @sumatranate 😀

Thank you sir. I appreciate the follow and the support.

thanks so much for Join the challenge 🤳♥️ I came here using different social medias like instagram and honestly hive is the best :D, and in my personal opinion is because the people, (I think people here are really building a community) I hope more people join (I made my brother and cousin join here), I am agree with the existence of downvotes but I don’t think a selfie deserve one, I got mad because the reason “your post made the same amount and was without effort” it is wrong to me, make me think only because we have an amount $$ necessary to make a visible downvote we could use it to go to downvote all we think is not right ?? Nope, as a community I think downvotes should be used when a content is affecting the community or is something against one of the members or things that are really bad to the eye like animal cruelty etc, what about if an influencer (who is only “famous” and make some money with pictures likes selfies) wants to join hive? I know some on instagram that win money like that and their pic are so simple and taken by phone, we are going to downvote them only because “shitty content” I don’t think a selfie is a shitty content. And I don’t only post selfies I also make content that I like and I to want share, and was the reason cause I joined here. Btw nice selfie :D

wow, first of all, cool selfie! and yeah, i agree with you and what a nice summary....Communities though can solve a lot.. say if someone just doesn't like selfies, they dont join that community.
