Online Censorship Is Getting Worse

in #politics3 years ago

Major social media corporations are becoming aggressive with their terms of service policies and it's beginning to look a lot like a digital war against conservative values for profit.

Over the past decade online censorship has grown considerably. Back then they would censor some forms of violence, and cannabis-related footage. Today, they claim that they are enforcing these stricter - newer - policies to help protect their users, but I sincerely doubt that. Personally, I believe they are only trying to protect their bank account and investors. Honestly, how can Facebook truly care about their users when we are their product. They're about making the CUSTOMER happy, not the user. Culling the flock is just as easy as changing a few lines of code and an adjustment to the algorithm, and it seems they are targeting conservatives these days.

This isn't exclusive to Facebook... Twitter and YouTube (Google) have also had their experiences with censoring prominent voices on their sites. They either shadow-ban users or outright "warn" users of content that they deem is false (when it's true), like President Donald Trump's tweets. YouTube recently changed their TOS which now allows them to profit more off of videos that are not apart of their advertising program, we don't know yet if they will be putting ads on content they "demonetized". The leftist-liberal elite run silicon valley, this shouldn't be a surprised to anyone.

Cancel culture comes to mind when people speak about online censorship on social media websites. The idea that we should 'cancel' people who we don't like has infected major social media networks. Canceling people, canceling history, canceling religion.

Today, canceling has gone to the extreme where people are having their lives ruined just for being critics of ideals such as transgenderism, or islamic jihad. Its as if we cannot express our concerns about modern society - not even within our Democratic institutions. This won't end here, I fear that the censorship will grow and the polarization of American politics will worsen. Can we trust the majority to speak for those who are concerned?

Should the mob dictate the word of the minority?
