Some people on Hive believe the Earth is Flat ? Seriously ?

in #pob4 days ago (edited)

This is the 1st time in my life that I have met somebody who actually believes that the Earth is flat.

????

Very Srange. I have lots of questions.

The moon and sun also look like Spheres …. Like the Earth.

So the Earth and Sun and Moon are flat Discs ?

They are just circular discs moving across the sky ? On a pully system ?

Who controls these disks as they move across the sky ?

I never heard of this Flat Earth Conspiracy until I came to Hive.

Flat Earth is an archaic and scientifically disproven conception of the Earth's shape as a plane or disk. Many ancient cultures subscribed to a flat-Earth cosmography, notably including ancient near eastern cosmology. The model has undergone a recent resurgence as a conspiracy theory.

The idea of a spherical Earth appeared in ancient Greek philosophy with Pythagoras (6th century BC). However, most pre-Socratics (6th–5th century BC) retained the flat-Earth model. In the early 4th century BC, Plato wrote about a spherical Earth. By about 330 BC, his former student Aristotle had provided strong empirical evidence for a spherical Earth. Knowledge of the Earth's global shape gradually began to spread beyond the Hellenistic world.

By the early period of the Christian Church, the spherical view was widely held, with some notable exceptions. In contrast, ancient Chinese scholars consistently describe the Earth as flat, and this perception remained unchanged until their encounters with Jesuit missionaries in the 17th century.

Traditionalist Muslim scholars have maintained that the earth is flat, though, since the 9th century, Muslim scholars tended to believe in a spherical Earth.

Despite the scientific facts and obvious effects of Earth's sphericity, pseudoscientific[9] flat-Earth conspiracy theories persist, and from the 2010s at latest, believers in a flat earth have increased, both as membership in modern flat Earth societies, and as unaffiliated individuals using social media.

In a 2018 study reported on by Scientific American, only 82% of 18 to 24 year old American respondents agreed with the statement "I have always believed the world is round". However, a firm belief in a flat Earth is rare, with less than 2% acceptance in all age groups.

It is a historical myth that medieval Europeans generally thought the Earth was flat. This myth was created in the 17th century by Protestants to argue against Catholic teachings.

People are Strange …

So weird. Could somebody explain how the Earth, Moon and Sun are flat ?

Sort:

Yeah, these people are morons, lol.

Indeed they are 😅

Hm this is actually my first time hearing the earth is flat too... I don't figure how someone will think the earth, sun and moon is flat 🧐

Wow! Seems like there have really been so many arguments on this topic in the early times. But the majority still proves and believes that the earth is spherical. So anyone who believes otherwise is still somehow in the past lol

It's so strange the things people believe these days. So many Retarded Conspiracy Theories being pumped out on X, Hive etc etc etc ...

Seriously, it is really annoying

I think they must be Trolls. Looking for clicks. I’m pretty sure that’s why Elon musk retweets this stuff. He is laughing at people. I mean he launches rockets into outer space.

Exactly 💯
