Lightpainting: The Hulk

in The LIFESTYLE LOUNGE4 years ago

I have been on a continued search throughout the house (and, primarily, through my children's toys) for more items to photography with a lightpainting bent. The latest item I've found for such a purpose is a figure of The Incredible Hulk.

hulk1.jpeg

For this figure and setup I used two lights on each side of the lightbox instead of one handheld light to 'paint' the figure. With the sidelights I'm able to give the figure some heavy shadowing, which I think is really fitting for a modern day Edward Hyde.

Photography is all about light, and lightpainting even moreso. The photographer needs to know precisely where to put the light and, more importantly, for how long. Each of these exposures were 20 seconds.

Even from the side this is a pretty impressive creature.

Certainly a well worked lighting can be something extraordinary or it can be something truly horrendous hehehe
I am not an expert, but thanks to:
trial and error
trial and error

I have learned some things
Very good photographic, creative and interesting work.
regards

Thank you @lourdeshd6! And trial and error is precisely how I figured out how to do these photos in such a way that I like the final result. My first attempt took over an hour, and I still wasn't happy. Now I'm quite happy, and have far fewer mistakes!

Amazing!

Thanks!

These are great! What settings did you use? I have been dabbling in lightpainting but I'm limited to a smartphone camera. Seeing that not all lightpainting is super elaborate stuff is inspiring for a limited artist like me.

Thanks! These were the settings I used:

ISO 100
F36
15 second timer

I've actually been wanting to try it with a smartphone too, just to see what I could do. I'll see if I can give it a go this week!

Nice! I highly recommend trying out the smartphone, I look forward to what you get!

Howdy sir wwwiebe! Great lighting work there, well done.

Thank you very much! I've got more that I still need to post, and more I still need to photography! My children are a veritable treasure trove of great toys!

Very true sir wwwiebe, you have an endless supply of posting material there!

Congratulations @wwwiebe! You received a personal award!

Thank you!

Hulk looks like he has a burger in his mouth, lol.

Nice work!

LOL! Now that I see that I'll never be able to unsee it!

Well lit WW. Photos look amazing.

Thanks!

Wow, great shots @wwwiebe! Very menacing, truly the hulk in great form, lol

I feel like the Hulk sometimes at work, but don't think my manager would appreciate me hulk-smashing the laptop!

We need the hulk right now

Hahaha. Yes, his expression is about how I feel about the current shenanigans.

These are always so cool. I imagine you having at them gleefully. Are you gleeful while you do this? Are your kids clamoring to help or do you wait for them to be asleep?
Have you made posters out of any of them? They'd make good gifts for kids.

Thanks @owasco! Your comments always make me smile. Yes, I am in fact gleeful when I do these. 😁The kids don't help - this is strictly a 'me' thing. I'm often gleeful. I'm the type of person who will start laughing over something I'm thinking.

I hadn't even thought about making posters from them, but that's an awesome idea!

A great play with the lighting here my friend.
Blessings!

Thanks!

Pleasure!

Looking good @wwwiebe 👍

Thank you!

Awesome subject, "Hulk Smash!" I don't know much about lighting but I really like what you did here. I have a couple of Led lighting stored and never really had a chance to play with it. I hope you dig up more toys for subject awesome.

Thanks very much! "Hulk Smash" has come to mind a lot lately, particularly around Steem: "Hulk Smash this shitshow!" Alas, it's not to be.

Oh coming up with the toys is not a problem! We have lots. If I ever run out, the Dollar Store is full of interesting things that'd work.

I used to shoot some stuff at night, similar effect. Then I bought a piece of welding glass and manipulate the lighting that way. 30+ second shots. I to like to play around with this type of photography..

This is the last post I posted about the welding glass

Used a Light behind my hand
and
Candle Smoke
and
A wine Glass

Happy Photo experimenting!!

Yep, 30+ second shots is it! These with the Hulk were either 15 or 20. Soem of the others I've done were 30. I've found a lot of the exposure time depends on the material of the subject and how it reflects light.

I poked about those links and really, really like the wine glass.

I keep forgetting how much I enjoy photography until I get back involved in it again. So many fun things to do.

Amazing photography technique--lighting and timing! Thank you for sharing it to us! 😊

Nice work, @wwwiebe!

Hi @wwwiebe. I love the Incredible Hulk. Just because he's green with cut-off pants. Not the red, white, and blue super hero outfits or the all black suit. My home is littered with Hulk action figures.

I don't have any knowledge of lightpainting photography. It looks really nice, though. I've seen others with posts on lightpainting, and the finished subject looks as through it takes lots of concentration to get the light effect just right.

Thank you for sharing your project. Have a great day.

You've got hulks!! That's awesome! I would love to see some!

Hi @wwwiebe. I said "is" littered. I should have said "was" littered. My kids are all grown now and took them with them. Grandkids enjoy them now if they still have them.

I did have some, along with other action figures, and Barbie Anniversary Dolls, that the girls were never opened, but kept as souvenirs. But I'd have to dig in my storage shed and attic. No telling what I'll find.

If I find some, I'll showcase them. Gave me an idea for a blog when and if I find them, THANKS :)
