I've been taking vitamin C every since I was operated on with my arteriovenous fistula removal about 17 years ago or so. It is because I knew then that Vitamin C helps us heal faster than normal as I have observed before so I took it everyday since I was always being stuck upon two big needles twice a week on my arm. I just needed the punctures to heal faster before the next punctures are made in the next dialysis session.
Then I discovered that I was not getting colds anymore although as being a dialysis patient I had suffered one case of Pneumonia and that was it, no more Pneumonia cases for me maybe due to my resistance against such infections due to my continued Vitamin C usage.
But what I was happy about was colds doesn't affect me anymore to which I am very happy about because I am not bothered anymore in having stuffed nose and clogged nose at sleep time. After discovering the good effects of vitamin C for myself regarding my resistance to colds I shared it to my parents who once in a while was catching colds themselves and they themselves got protected too in ever catching colds any longer.
I was also using vitamin C to help me absorb iron from my foods because the first years that I was using it I am really anemic, it didn't help me with my anemia directly but it helped my blood to carry more oxygen unto my body. Now I am doing the same but with some iron supplementation so that my blood can carry more oxygen to my body.
So it is just better to use Vitamin C and take it with our foods so that we can absorb more nutrients i.e iron from our foods and due to its antioxidant effect it helps protect the cells of our body to the damage caused by oxidation and thus may help ward some kinds of cancers from ever developing into our system or body because for one thing it helps us not to form nitrosamines in our guts when we eat preserved cold cuts such as hams or deli meats which have a cancer-causing nitrates in them as preservative.
Now that a certain virus is spreading around the world we must take some precaution to at least jack-up our immunity against infection because it is just cheap to acquire vitamin C and we do not need much, just a tablet of 500 mg everytime we eat because it is a water-soluble vitamin that passes much of it to our urinary tract when we pee although we can develop kidney stones which anyway is easy to treat but in my case taking vitamin C just circulates in my system giving me a megadose effect and probably the reason that I am still alive today. @steemyoda
