I remeber during that instance where we caught some little fishes (not the snakehead fish) and then broiling it over coals. We just eat it with some rice and vinegar with some fish sauce and red hot chillies as a dipping sauce and wow that was a very pleasant and simple plus enjoyable meal for one of my brothers and some friends.

The fishes are caught at a nearby waterway for the rice fields which are now had been converted into housing subdivisions but some rice field owners still uses it. From that waterway we had caught some fishes and one of those are the snakehead locally known as the "Bulig or Dalag."

Not many people outside my country recognizes it but it is a very delicious fish but it is not cultivated and allowed to roam free even in fish ponds where it always makes a way within and feeds on about anything from small fishes, insects, to even a mice.

I said that I liked to eat a snakehead broiled with guts intact because often I would be searching for the liver, it has a nice earthy but pleasant taste into it. Not only the liver but sometimes the stomach which is very fleshy as well as the intestines if I see that they do not have much contents then they are a meal for me too provided that the belly area of the fish is broiled well and is done by myself.

I also at one point had spearfished a snakehead fish coming above the deep part of the waterway when it was stagnant. I was using my air rifle loaded with about four inches metal spear with a plastic end which is attached to a thin fishing line and is reeled unto a plastic bottled attached at the end of my air rifle.

That is actually one way to catch the snakehead fish, you aim at the water until one would pop-out and then go back down fast so you must zero in to the fish to spear it with your modified air rifle. Of course there are other ways like electrocution using car batteries and the normal line hook with a special bait for the snakehead, usually a small frog or a large insect too.

It is fascinating to see a snakehead fish because it cares or watches at its young when its eggs hatches. You can determine if there is a mother snakehead if you see a swarm of small red fishes clumped together in school, then the mother is nearby. Sometimes some other fishes would eat the poor young snakehead one by one but at least some of them woudl survive into adulthood.
