RE: Jack's Dilemma | S&S Monthly Invitational: October

in Scholar and Scribe • 7 months ago

What a captivating dark tale of jealousy and vengeance among toys! Jack is a toy gone nuts! I'll remember to be nice to every object I own to avoid a chilling rebellion. 😄

I enjoyed reading this. Your plot is unique, reminding us that even inanimate objects because of their attachment to humans, can have complex emotions and desires. Also, your characters, especially Jack, are well-developed. You build the suspense effectively, especially in the final battle. The desperation of Jack to win back Jimmy's love and attention and the other toys' desperation to take back their power is gripping. Beautifully written!

Would you like an in-depth/critical review of your story? Thanks so much for participating in the Scholar N Scribe Invitational. Good luck. !PIMP

All the elements you mention I tried to incorporate into the toy's character as part of his spirit's alter ego of a child's tumultuous past, having been mistreated, then discarded in the trash by his parent. The story of the child's spirit continues as it attaches itself possibly to a toy he owned before succumbing to his injuries.

I am reminded each day of the horrors of child abuse. Can a spirit be transferred to another human or inanimate object? These suppositions are not too far fetched. Emotions are powerful. They drive us to undeniable heights and unspeakable horrors.

Each night, I bid my granddaughter's 36-inch bear and others laying on top of her bed guarding it until she returns a good night and sweet dreams. A double dose if knocks and other sounds are heard in the room. At least Doc McStuffin is close by just in case any misunderstandings and disagreements occur.

I appreciate your visit and kind compliment for my story. I was hoping that horror and desperation in compliance the the theme was accomplished.

Take care and have a good rest of your weekend.

Well said. Child abuse is heartbreaking and the emotional impact is always profound. While the idea of transferring a spirit to another human or inanimate object is farfetched from scientific standpoint, it's a reflection of the power and influence of emotions and connection on us.

Your goodnight gesture to your granddaughter's teddy and toys shows your care and how protective you are. Just like it's the duty of every parent to ensure their child's room is safe and comforting to the child. You nailed the horror and desperation. Thank you again.
