Diving Board Fridays with Three Photos

in Photography Loverslast year

The Diving Board

Anyone who has been to Galway, knows salthill, which is the seaside suburb five minutes drive from the city centre. For many years it has been a popular swimming spot, with ladies beach and silver strand both very popular.

For the more adventurous there is Blackrock and the diving board. When high tide happens lots of people jump of the lower, middle and upper diving boards. It doesn't matter what the season is, you'll always have a few brave souls jumping or diving in. Whether it's minus 5 and brass monkeys or the sun splitting the rocks, you'll always get people on and around the diving board.

The diving board has been there in some capacity since all the way back in 1885, but the structure that is there today and the subject of my post is the concrete diving board that was erected in the 1950s.

It is a landmark known and loved by all Galwegians and when you walk the promenade or the Prom as locals call it, the end of the walkway is at Blackrock diving board, where you'll see the walkers kick the wall and turn back, while the brave souls jump and dive off the diving board.

Week Seven post

This will be a weekly series. I will go back through my archive of photos or the diving board and share three every Friday and I'll also visit the diving board for a swim so that the photos can keep coming every Friday and I can share a little bit of Galway with you all and sure I may as well come up with a caption or name for each snap too.

I am sharing this in the Photography Lovers community, as these posts are mainly about the three weekly photos and less about the words that accompany them. I hope you like the fifth installment of snaps. Happy Friday wherever you find yourself on this spinning lump of rock. Rub a dog, smile at a stranger, dance in your kitchen and enjoy your weekend.

The photos used throughout this post are all my own taken on my Samsung smart phone
