Zooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom. There goes another week. Another week older, another wiser and three more tunes to share with you melancholy Michaels and Artistic Bridgets. Strap on the auld seat belts there as I bring you three belters from one of my all time favourite bands. I was replying to a music post that @blanchy did earlier, and the National have been happily playing in the background since. What album should you listen to. It doesn't matter, they are all the feckin job. For any of you good folk who are reading along here that don't know Blanchy, go and check out his page - a gas man and a man who calls it as he sees it. Some songs just talk to you. This one certainly speaks to me. To be fair a lot of The National's songs speak to me, but this one in particular. It stopped me in my tracks when I first listened to the album Boxer many moons ago - it was actually the first album of theres that I listened to after getting a great steer from a music loving friend of mine. This is one of those songs that works better with a crowd singing it back to the band, as they go and I've been lucky enough to sing along with the crowd back to Matt and the lads four times now and I can't wait to see them again. Lyrics and song are below.

Also, I found this insight into the song online, which I wanted to share with ye, especially for those wonder who the hell or what the hell Vanderlyle is?

The song title is typical of the made-up names the National give to many of their songs. Frontman Matt Berninger told The Quietus: "Inventing, yeah. Like 'Squalor Victoria' — there's something in that word that sounds like something because every time you actually try to use real words to describe it, it doesn't sound like the thing you're talking about anyway. This character, Vanderlyle Crybaby — I can't tell you how long it took me to come up with the word 'Vanderlyle.' There's the Nirvana song, 'Pennyroyal Tea' — just the word 'pennyroyal' I loved, it sounded so great and it's just the name of a tea. I couldn't use that — maybe I should have, that would have saved some time — and so I started looking at the rhythm of the word, and the cadence. I probably have a book of a hundred different three syllable things."

Berninger explained to The Quietus why he added the word "geeks" to the title: "Well it was always in the song, but the truth is, the reason I added it to the title was because a lot of people thought that I was saying 'geese' — people thought it was a reference to 'The Geese Of Beverly Road,' that the geese were back! In some ways that could have been cool, but that's not what it is. There was a time when we were mixing it where I kind of slur those lyrics a bit, and it sounds like I'm saying 'geese'. I asked Peter if I could re-record that one word, and he said no, it sounded fine, and it'd sound weird if there was suddenly this really pronounced 'GEEKS!' So I asked him to turn up the 'K' sound, just ride it up."

The National - All The Wine

This can be my official Christmas song this year, all the wine is all for me! All the Wine’s 3 minutes and 15 seconds somehow capture the exact point where, a few pints in, you decide you’re the man. “I’m a perfect piece of ass” declares Berninger, staggering to his feet. “I’m a festival. I’m a parade.” I love it, I can completely imagine him or someone uttering something like this in jest.

The other two choices were a bit slow, so I've thrown on this more upbeat number for a bit of balance and sure who doesn't like balance, apart from Unbalanced Dan.
