This mat well be my toughest assignment to date. Asking me choose my three favorite songs from the National is like asking Isaac Newton what his three favorite equations are. There's just so many to choose from and to be honest they're all excellent. Matt Berninger is a wordsmith, an alchemist of language, who conjures up emotions and feelings in the strangest of turns of phrase that just fit the accompanying music so well, that you'd be forgiven for believing that the lyrics and chords had always been together.

So with this mammoth task upon my shoulders, let us go forth with the TTT show. For those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday....

The jist is as follows

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Or why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and hopefully upvote it. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music.

Here are the week seventeen recommendations for Three Tune Tuesday

** Drum roll please.....**

The National - Bloodbuzz Ohio

Even though it's difficult to pick a top three and that three may vary considerably any given week, there is one mainstay, one diamond in field of gold - I know what Sting was singing about now! I'm not sure what it is about the song, but from the very first listen to the next how every many hundred or thousand plays its had on my sound systems, it just speaks to me. Everything- lyrics, composition, music, delivery, voice, live versions are just top class. If you don't know the song, you're in for a treat, if you do know the song, listen to it again, go on, you won't regret it.

The National - Slow Show

This is a beautiful song and one my wife and I both love, so much so that played it at our wedding. It's from the album Boxer which is one of their best studio albums.

I know people's time can be limited when reading posts here and many will not listen to the three tracks, but if you pick just one to listen to let it be this one. I couldn't find the official music video for it, but I happened upon the one below and I love the old clips of people who are long since dead, forever immortalised in these moving frames. It doesn't really go with the song though.

The National - About Today

This song has always been a firm favourite of mine and comes from one of the early less known albums Cherry Tree

Even though it is the most popular National song on Spotify, I think that has to do with it's use in the movie Warrior, a movie I have not seen yet, but I might just look it up in the next few weeks. Anyway, back to the song, again powerful emotion and imagery at work, enjoy this masterpiece. Thanks to Matt and the gang for your music, which I love dearly.

That's it for another week. Those are your three songs for week seventeen. Let me know what you think - good, bad or indifferent? Did you like them all or just one or two? What's your favourite song by The National?

Also, as I said before, I love getting good steers for new tunes, so please tell me about the latest and greatest or obscure oldie brilliance below and I'll be sure to check em out.

Thanks as always for stopping by.

Peace Out
