** Drum roll please.....**
Damian Marley - Welcome To Jamrock
You've all heard of Bob Marley I can safely assume. If not, pause what you are doing and go and search Bob Marley on You Tube, and thank me later. Bob had children before his tragic passing back in May 1981.
One of Bob sons, Damian Marley has been making music now for over thirty years. Also known as 'Jr. Gong' he inherited his Dad's love of Reggae and story telling in a way that shines a light on issues and unjust happenings around the world.
This one is from his 2005 album of the same name Welcome To Jamrock and I remembering buying that album new and really liking what I heard.
Have a listen and see what you think.
Damian Marley and Nas - As We Enter
Get yourself ready for this one folks, if you've never heard it before. Great beats and lyrics from two legends Damian Marley and Nas. They collaborated in 2010 to bring us the album Distant Relatives and that album opens with this one. Nas had this to say about the project at the time:
"Right now, I'll tell you first, I'm working on an album with Damian Marley. We tryin' to build some schools in Africa with this one, and trying to build empowerment. We're tryin' to show love and stuff with this album. So, the record's … all about really the 'hood and Africa also as well."
If you decide to check out the album, I would recommend "Nah Mean", "Land of Promise" and "Strong Will Continue".
Damian Marley - Slave Mill
Ok, folks you'll know by now that I love a good Tiny Desk concert. They are the gift that keep on giving. Such a simple idea and yet genius in it's simplicity and ingenuity. Damian Marley brings us three tunes here and Tiny Desk sum it up will with this statement.
"With eyes shut, Marley dug deep into the healing power of music with songs from his 2017 album Stony Hill. "So A Child May Follow" addresses the troubles youth confront around the globe and how to persevere to succeed. "Speak Life" sums up the message of his music and his turn behind the Tiny Desk: live a life that will enable us to survive life's slings and arrows with dignity and love. But what makes his music stand out on this session is the prominence of the acoustic guitar and piano in the arrangements, which makes the familiar sound somewhat new."
It's clear that Bob's blood, beliefs, decency and sincerity is flowing through Damian's veins and I always like to hear what he has to say in his songs. These are not songs for the sake of songs as we often in see in Pop music, but rather this raggae tells a story or relays a message to us. Take what you will from it.
Damian Marley -In His Own Words (Featuring Nas + Stephen Marley)
I will leave you with this one (a bonus fourth track - feck it, why not!) that finishes out the Nas collaboration album which I think is a nice way to sign off for the week.
Three Tune Tuesday
That's right, it's Tuesday folks and for our merry little band of ladies and lads, that means sharing tunes, good vibes and engagement. As another week disappears in the rearview mirror, we have loads of engagement and tunes flying around on Three Tune Tuesday and sure isn't that bloody fantastic! I hope you're ready to share three tunes from wherever you find yourself on this magical spinning lump of rock that we all call home and sure you might even sing us a tune if we're lucky?
It's a time of the week when lovers of music, tunes and craic bring their blockchain community three of their finest and brightest tunes to share and celebrate, so let's roll on and let the tunes flow free.
This is my 122nd week waxing lyrical for Three Tune Tuesday and we are still going strong.
It started off with me just sharing tunes into what seemed like a void, but little by little others joined and now I'm thrilled that we have a little corner of Hive where we come and share our tunes every Tuesday, and long may it continue. I almost stopped posting the songs and thoughts a few times, but I stuck with it and now interestingly it is my favorite thing about Hive. I love music and now I have a network of folks around the world who love music too and we share our tunes and catch up with each others tunes and discuss them each week. We get Pop, Metal, Rock, Gospel, Folk, Jazz, Rap, Hip-Hop, Trip-Hop, Reggae, Bippy bappidy Flange Hop. Ok I made that one up, but you get the idea, we are all learning about new artists, bands, back stories and sure isn't it just mighty!
Something that excites me the most is that we even get musicians sharing their covers of famous songs and even their own songs from time to time here on #ThreeTuneTuesday, which is a real favorite of mine, as that takes talent, time and dedication.
We are adding New posters and retaining our core of regulars here on #TTT which is fantastic. Let's keep it growing. Weekly, I try to find four to six hours to listen to all of the fantastic music shared from like-minded folk from around the globe and interact with their posts. This has led me to genres I don't know well and to some amazing new bands and artists and has even introduced me to some musical instruments I did not know existed. It also allows me to upvote smaller accounts and find some really interesting people from all over the world, which is heartening.
I hope you enjoy the tunes - be sure to tell me all about it in the comments below and above all else, please enjoy the rest of your Tuesday - smile at a stranger, rub a dog, be a nice human to someone who was not expecting it - peace out.
For those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday....
The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize - more on that later.
