It was a beautiful day for a walk. I thought it would be a waste to spend such a weekend at home, so I decided to take a short trip by bus and train with my sambo. We decided to go to Sigtuna, a small town located in the suburbs of Stockholm. We have been to Sigtuna several times, but it is especially beautiful during the fall foliage season, and I try to visit once every year at this time.
The town is recognized in Sweden as a very important town historically, as it was the first land governed by the king who converted to Christianity in Sweden. The ruins of churches built in the late 1000s are scattered throughout the town.
We spent a very nice weekend in the town, looking at the autumn leaves and getting a taste of Swedish history and also we had some good sweets, of course 😄☕🇸🇪. It was fascinating to learn why the Vikings abandoned their Norse gods (Oden, Tyr, Freya, Loki and many more!) and converted to Christianity. Nowadays, the number of Christians in Sweden is decreasing year by year, and I wonder what kind of society we will become in the future, while reading a comic book called Vinland Saga. Well, what a beautiful day it was!! I need to continue to read Vinland Saga! Haha!
今日はすごく天気もよく、絶好の散歩日よりだった。こんな週末を家で過ごすのはもったいないと思い、バスと電車を使って小旅行をした。シグツゥーナと言う、ストックホルム郊外に位置する小さな町へ行くことにした。シグツゥーナには何度か行ったことがあるのですが、紅葉の時期は特にきれいで毎年のようにこの時期には一度遊びに行くようにしている。
スウェーデンで初めてキリスト教へ改宗した国王が統治した土地で、歴史的にもとても重要な町としてスウェーデンでは認識されています。町のなかには、1000年代後半に建設された教会の遺跡が点在しています。
紅葉を見ながら、スウェーデンの歴史に触れるとても良い週末を過ごすことが出来ました。なぜ、ヴァイキング達が自らの信仰である北欧の神々を捨て去り、キリスト教へ改宗していったのかそのプロセスにとても興味をそそられるます。今ではそのキリスト教も信仰者がスウェーデンでは年々減少し、今後どの様な社会になるのかなぁなんて、ヴィンランド・サガと言う漫画を読みながら耽っています。
