RE: The Snowberries Are Coming!……..My Actifit Report Card: July 27 2025

So, interesting, and I have a question: in this forest area you and hubby hike, are there any other edible plants that you can munch on besides the Thimbleberry? It would be so cool to have an offgrid cabin somewhere. That is in the back of my mind.
Another excellent hike, and thanks for taking us along!
And service must have been really outstanding! Blessed is the Savior of all men!

Hey @jamerussell! Yes! There are walnut trees about; blackberries; Queen Anne's Lace (wild carrot) and of course mushrooms.

The berries I'm sure of as too, the walnuts. I'm not much of a 'shroom fan, but I do love to photograph them! As for the Queen Anne's Lace-there are some deadly look alike's that could mistaken for the real McCoy! I don't risk it.

Oh, I almost forgot the apples! Everywhere! There is stinging nettle that is edible, sort of like spinach, but the plants need to be the young ones of the springtime. We've tried gathering this in the past, but the bugs attached are kind of hard to get past, lol!

We've also harvested maple sap and boiled it down to a tasty maple syrup! Highly recommended, but a 2+ day adventure after gathering at least 5 gallons of sap.

So, I suppose there are lots of things to forage for; probably more than I know of. There also are deer, grouse and wild turkeys should you fancy some meat.

Take care my friend and have a blessed day! 🤗🌹 !LADY !HOPE

That is cool, and Stinging Nettle is supposed to be an excellent homeopathic medicinal plant, as you say, if you can get past the bugs hahaha!
Never knew that about the maple sap, that is totally cool too! Pancakes and maple syrup!
I have a blackberry bush in my back yard, and my avocado;
I had a walnut tree out in front, but every time we got a good load of walnuts, the squirrels were double teaming and running 8 of them and they would clean the tree each year just before they were ripe; got rid of the tree. (it was in a bad location anyways, but it did have some good walnuts on it.) Also too close proximity to neighbor's house to shoot them, they would run along her roofline and jump into the tree from there.

I just picked a couple of pounds of blackberries this evening. Soon-dessert with homemade whipped cream. I make my own vanilla to make the whip cream with. It's lovely for that and for baking.

Yes, I get my fair share of those squirrels! One year, he ripped off all of the walnut blossoms and there were no nuts that year. I guess he did it to himself, lol! I also have a black walnut tree, but even the squirrels leave those alone as they are the hardest nut to crack-literally!

Take care my friend and enjoy the rest of your evening!
