From the optical viewpoint: most definitely the small business. I have more freedom to actually help people rather than looking out for corporate policies that don't make any sense. Often, my hands would be tied behind my back with the corporation.

In the private practice, I look out for the doc's bottom line, but I have more freedom, as I said, to help people and to enlighten them to lens choices that actually work for their situation, rather than up selling as the corporation always demanded.
