TGIF! 🤠 I am glad it’s Friday-finally! Today was a bit boring with a me, myself and I day. I kept busy, but when someone walks in and you open your mouth to talk and nothing comes out, well then you’ve been silent way too long! 🙄
Nonetheless, the day is mostly done, although I don’t really mind Friday nights as my work obligation is done! 😎
I’ve gone back through my photo archives looking for mountain pictures. Given that we live in the Cascade Mountain Range, it was an easy thing to find. The problem occurs with which ones to pick. 🧐
This mountain range is primarily volcanic and has five active volcanoes- Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Shasta, Mt. Rainier and Mt. Hood, Mt. Baker.

It’s about 35 miles as the crow flies, and 55-60 via roadway. It steams and has geological activity, but has not erupted since 1848. It’s long overdue. If it were to erupt, the biggest and deadliest risk is a Lahars which is a mudflow from the glacier that caps Mt. Baker that would be filled with rocks, debris, ash and cause the Nooksack River to flood. That’s just one aspect of an eruption. Of course it can spew rocks and steam and there is a possibility of pyroclastic lava flows. We’ve seen the steam it lets off now and again, but fortunately, it’s not ever erupted. 😅

Of course, all the volcanoes and the various fault lines means it’s potential earthquake territory as well. In the 25 years we’ve lived here, I’ve experienced one that was memorable. I think it registered around 6.8 on the Richter scale and it was probably close to 20 years ago. I’ve NEVER felt the ground do things like it did then before or since! It was quite interesting. The entire Pacific coast on up into Alaska is part of the Ring of Fire - a massive horseshoe shaped zone of volcanoes and earthquakes. Look it up sometime. 😁
