Moonlight And…….My Actifit Report Card: January 28 2026

in Actifit2 months ago (edited)

Moonlight and moss! An interesting combination that is just random-but I like it.

Moss would be hard to view in the moonlight, so most of my shots occur in daylight for that reason ! 😇

Moss is interesting as it’s pretty much everywhere in the forest in which I live. Mosses are bryophytes-simple plants that don’t have flowers or seeds or true roots. Hair like structures called rhizoids anchor them. Contrary to popular belief, moss doesn’t just grow on the northern side of things. It will grow wherever the conditions are right.

Moss growing on a tree will not kill the tree, such as in the picture above. It’s just hanging out. They absorb water and nutrients directly through their leaves. That’s why most the time, you’ll find it growing in damp and shady places.

Now, more moonlight!

Some mosses can actually dry out and appear dead-but they’re not! Once rain hits them they come back to life. Here’s some moss with lichen growing with it.

There are over 12,000 species worldwide-that’s a LOT of green fuzzies!! They also can be hosts to microorganisms and fungi too!

Check out the red ‘shroom hanging out with the green moss! Kind of like natural Christmas colors!

More moonlight!

Moss can help to lessen erosion and can also indicate how bad pollutants are as it’s sensitive to such.

Moss is really beautiful especially when it drapes like this……..

Of course, there are some medicinal properties about moss, but I’ll leave that tidbit up for you researching if interested.

There’s no doubt about it-moss is interesting and beautiful!

Now, for one last moonlight picture.

That’s gonna be it for today. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day wherever you are! 🙏🌏🙏

NKJV Psalm 27:4-6

One thing I have desired of the LORD,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD,
And to inquire in His temple.
For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.
And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;
Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.

Thanks for sharing. Didn't knew moss can fend for themselves and not being parasitic to trees. Learned something today.

Moss is wonderful! I've often looked at literal beds of it in the forest, thinking what a lovely spot for a nap........until I think about the bugs that might crawl over me while sleeping, lol!

Thanks for stopping by @benthomaswwd! Take care and enjoy the day! !LADY

I love moss and as someone that spent 5 years living outside the bugs are not that into us although i suppose if it is an issue for you it would be concerning.

Have the greatest day

Well.......I don't much care for spiders (absolutely can't stand them!) and I'm allergic to mosquitoes that hover in the forest here. Otherwise, I'm not much bothered by bugs. I'm the person who removes Mr. Stinky (stink bug) from the spider's web to save it's life, lol!

Thanks for stopping by @benthomaswwd! Take care and enjoy the weekend! !LADY
