……when I was just a babe, my Grandma on my mom’s side found a doll. Not just any doll! This one came in a box with a cellophane window in it. On the upper left hand corner was a heart and the words ‘Baby Beth’ printed on it. My mom and dad preferred to call me Beth rather than my given name of Elizabeth. The box is long gone. Although not in pristine condition, I still have that doll. It got me to thinking that I’d love to give an heirloom doll like that meaning that it’s not expensive, just heartfelt, to my little granddaughter, Olivia. No amount of searching came up with a Baby Olivia doll. 😔
Being as I didn’t want to give up, that got me thinking back to the mid 80’s. I was a crafty lady back then and made all kinds of crafts-some actually bringing in money. I made one of these for my kids and made one for my mom. Back then, the cabbage patch kids were all the rage, but who could afford them? So another company produced The Baby Doll, doll heads and stuffable bodies.
They looked like cabbage patch babies but at an affordable price. Once stuffed and put together, you would ‘soft sculpt’ them. When finished, they wore newborn size clothing.
I didn’t have any parts and of course, they were no longer manufactured, but after diligently searching eBay, I found them! Yes, 40 year old doll heads brand new and unstuffed bodies in original packaging unopened-for sale! Score!!😁
I promptly purchased and began working on the Baby Olivia doll! My neighbor Jan graciously volunteered to embroider Olivia’s name and date of birth on the doll’s right butt cheek. ☺️
Then began the process. Suffice it to say that 40 year old vinyl does not have much give-I had to come up with an alternative method to connect the head to the body. Once past that hurtle, the rest came together, however soft sculpting was a bit of a challenge at first but got better as I progressed.
All in all, I only stuck myself once during the whole process! Not bad for something I’ve not done for 40 years, lol! Let me present to you, the Baby Olivia doll!
I’m pleased with the outcome and although not perfect, (she even has a belly button and a butt crack ☺️) she is made with 100% love just for my granddaughter! ❤️ My hope is that she will have this doll still when she’s my age now, as I have my doll. 🥰

NKJV Galatians 4:4-6
But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!
