…..what might be lurking in the forest!
Happy Friday everyone! It’s a very much anticipated day of the week as it marks the end of the workweek and the beginning of the weekend!
Work was busy in the morning, but dropped off in the afternoon due to 3 no shows. The doc’s mom did come in but left at 3 PM. Then the 3:00 and 3:30 people were over 30 minutes late! Anyway, it is done and I’m glad!
It is also Mother’s Day weekend, so an early greeting to all of the mothers out there! It’s your weekend-enjoy it!😎😁👍
As many of you know, we live in the forest and hike on private property we have access to. It’s a fairly dense forest filled with all kinds of trees, plants and bushes.
The forest canopy provides shelter for many wild birds. You frequently can hear the owls calling to one another and if you’re lucky, you can spot them flying silently between the trees. We’ve been lucky enough to find owl feathers on the trails before.
The forest provides much nourishment for the many species in our forest. Wintertime can be hard for them, so a snowberry bush provides them with food. It grows prolifically everywhere here.
Besides the birds, you can often spot sign of a Bobcat or a Cougar. We’ve seen the Bobcat, but not the Cougar, although we’ve seen Cougar scat over the years. Some winters when there’s snow on the ground, what starts out as you tracking them suddenly becomes a bit mixed up and the prints in the snow seem to be tracking you!
As for the Bobcat, we’ve had a couple around our house and yes, we saw them! We have not seen a Cougar……yet!
As you can see from the photos, it is indeed a thick forest! There are a couple of trails we like to frequent. One is called Buckhorn Loop and the other Slumbering Bear. They join and head to Towhee Ridge. Over the years if you read my posts, you’ve seen pictures of these trails. The name Slumbering Bear is aptly named because in the past, bears have been spotted! I had a close encounter on that very trail about 5 years ago. I will never forget!
The owners, Keith and Lynne of this property put out a game cam. This was what they sent me.
This very large bear from the looks of it, was spotted on April 27th at the area where Buckhorn Loop and Slumbering Bear intersect. I guess we will be making lots of noise if we hike that way. If………..
That’s gonna be it for today. Take care and be sure to watch out for them bears!! Enjoy the rest of your day wherever you are! 🙏🌎🙏
