A smile flickers—
not from joy,
but defiance.
Their shirts hang like stories,
creased by dust,
loose with hunger,
tight with memory.
Still, they stand.
In the rubble of yesterday’s promise,
in the soft terror of not-knowing,
they stand.
Children of forgotten corners,
with eyes that have seen
too much,
yet still search
for something
like tomorrow.
