I Volunteered to Make Our Community's Signage <3

in DIYHub3 years ago

In the Philippines, our towns and cities are divided into a smaller communities called "barangay". And every barangay is further subdivided into "sitio" and "purok". The place I live in belongs to "Sitio Tabay" and "Purok Mangga".

Last weekend, our community decided to renovate our small place because it hasn't been in a good condition for the past weeks... months, even. My papa lead the renovation with the help of the other community members. I'll be posting a separate blog on it once we're done with the whole process.

As for me, I volunteered to make a signage which we're going to place on our renovated "purok".

The name of our community is "mangga" which means "mango" in English. I'm not sure but it's maybe because there are a lot of mango trees in our place. So, with this in mind, I tried to think of the design for our signage and thought that painting a mango fruit would make it more attractive.

This was somehow the draft of the design I came up with... so next thing would be to prepare the materials like the plywood and the painting materials I needed.

Once everything I need is there, it's time to start. I'd start with painting the whole plywood with white as the base.

My small roller was broken... haha So, I inserted a straw in it instead, so I could continue applying the second coating.

Once the base paint was dry, I tried to make a guide for the signage using a pencil. It's just a guide, but knowing myself, I wouldn't really follow everything. haha At least, the letters won't be out of place or won't be taking too much space.

I like the combination of these colors, so I chose them. I especially like the combination of red and yellow. They blended into orange at the center, so it looked really nice. Well, at least for me. haha

Since I'm done with the lettering part, let me draw some mangoes.

They look yummy, don't they? I really enjoyed making them, especially the ripe one. it was fun combining various color making it look real. Ahh.. I am craving mango all of a sudden. One of the mango trees in our community still has a lot of fruit, but it's better to eat it as a green mango.

Last thing I did was outlining both the drawing and lettering with black to make it much clearer and distinct.

We already placed it in our "purok", but I want to reveal the whole thing once all the renovation of the place is done. I believe they're going to finish it this weekend. Some of them are working, so today only the young ones cleaned and also painted the purok's walls.

I'm so excited to see the finished version. I'll tell you more about it next time.

Also, I made a couple more signages, but I did it on a different day, so I'll be posting it next time. Have a great one! (^_^)/
