Das Bier zum 194. #Beersaturday ist schon lange getrunken und jetzt wird es auch an der Zeit den Beitrag hierzu zu Schreiben und zu veröffentlichen.

The beer for the 194th #Beersaturday has been drunk for a long time and now it's time to write and publish the article about it.

Zum diesmaligen Beersaturday habe ich mir das „Rest in Peace“ von der Brauerei „Crew Republic“ herausgesucht. Mit dieser kleinen Brauerei aus München habe ich bereits Bekanntschaft gemacht.

For this Beersaturday I have chosen the "Rest in Peace" from the brewery "Crew Republic". I have already made the acquaintance of this small brewery from Munich.

Beim Blick auf die Flasche stellte ich fest, dass es sich hierbei um ein „Barley Wine“handelt. Da ich gerade erst vor kurzem ein Barley-Wine von einer anderen Brauerei hatte Klick hier, dachte ich mir es wäre mal schön zu erfahren, was genau ist denn ein Barley Wine und warum eigentlich Wine (also Wein).

Looking at the bottle, I noticed that this is a "Barley Wine". Since I just recently had a Barley Wine from another brewery click here, I thought it would be nice to know what exactly is a Barley Wine and why actually Wine.

Barley-Wine

Ins Deutsche übersetz bedeutet Barley Wine „Gerstenwein“. Der Ursprung dieser Brauart geht zurück auf das 18. Jahrhundert. Ausgelöst durch Konflikte und Kriege verhängten die Franzosen ein Embargo (also ein Exportverbot) auf Weine und somit trocknete der englische Markt sozusagen aus.

The origin of this brewing method goes back to the 18th century. Triggered by conflicts and wars, the French imposed an embargo (i.e. an export ban) on wines and thus the English market dried up.

Für den Adel und den Pöbel gab es also kein Wein mehr in England, was die Engländer dazu veranlasste ein Bier zu brauen, welches dem beliebten Rotwein möglichst nahe kommt. Es wurde ein dunkles Bier gebraut mit einem hohen Alkoholgehalt. Dieses wurde dann noch in Holzfässern gereift und geboren war der Barley-Wine (Gerstenwein).

So for the nobility and the plebs, there was no more wine in England, which prompted the English to brew a beer that was as close as possible to the popular red wine. A dark beer with a high alcohol content was brewed. This was then still matured in wooden barrels and was born the Barley Wine (barley wine).

Der Barley-Wine zeichnet sich vor allem durch seinen höheren Alkoholgehalt und seiner dunklen Farbe aus. Vom Barley-Wine gibt es zumeist zwei Richtungen, die eine ist die britische, die malzig-süß und bitter ist und die amerikanische, die durch Zugabe von Aromahopfen eher fruchtiger daherkommt. Ein amerikanisches hatte ich leider noch nicht.

The barley wine is characterized mainly by its higher alcohol content and its dark color. From the Barley-Wine there are mostly two directions, one is the British, which is malty-sweet and bitter and the American, which comes along more fruity by adding aroma hops. Unfortunately, I have not yet had an American one.

Das Grand Prestige, das ich zuletzt probiert habe, hat einen guten Eindruck hinterlassen, weshalb ich das „Rest in Peace“ mit einer großen Erwartungshaltung geöffnet habe.

The Grand Prestige I last tasted left a good impression, so I opened the Rest in Peace with high expectations.

Die Farbe des „RIP“ ist rötlich, braun. Beim Einschütten bildet sich nur ein wenig Schaum, der auch schnell zusammenfällt. Beim Geruch erkennt man schnell das malzig-süße, vielleicht auch ein bisschen orange. Der Alkohol ist auch leicht wahrzunehmen.

The color of the "RIP" is reddish, brown. When poured, only a little foam is formed, which also quickly collapses. When smelling, one quickly recognizes the malty-sweet, perhaps also a bit orange. The alcohol is also easily perceived.

Der erste Schluck ist angenehm prickelnd. Am Anfang schmeckt man die Süße und ein bisschen Pflaume, dann kommt auch schon der Alkohol, der sehr dominant ist. Zum Schluss kommt der Hopfen, der sehr bitter daherkommt.

The first sip is pleasantly tingly. At first you taste the sweetness and a bit of plum, then comes the alcohol, which is very dominant. Finally comes the hops, which comes across very bitter.

Fazit:
Die Erwartungen wurden leider nicht ganz erfüllt. Bei diesem Bier ist mir persönlich der Alkoholgeschmack etwas zu sehr im Vordergrund. Auch der Nachtrunk ist sehr bitter. Wer hätte das gedacht, das holländische Bier gewinnt.

Conclusion:
The expectations were unfortunately not quite met. In this beer, I personally the alcohol taste is a little too much in the foreground. The aftertaste is also very bitter. Who would have thought, the Dutch beer wins.
