Now that should cover all ye serial beer lovers near and far! How has your week been? It been another busy one here for me and not much chance for trying a new beer, just a few Heineken last night with some friends at a bbq at our place.

Now I've a qurstion for you. What is that trailer looking thing off in the distance of this photo? Is it a bird? Is it a plane?

NO!! it's a sheebeen!

Or a small little pub on wheels. What a class business idea. Now anyone can have a bar in their back garden for a night! Genius!

Here's a few closer pics for you guys.

What's a shebeen?

This is what wikipedia tells us:

A shebeen (Irish: síbín) was originally an illicit bar or club where excisable alcoholic beverages were sold without a licence. The term has spread far from its origins in Ireland, to Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, the English-speaking Caribbean,[1] Namibia, Malawi,[2] and South Africa. In modern South Africa, many "shebeens" are now fully legal.[3][4]

Well that's it for my beer Saturday. Next week I promise to return with a beer review of a nice IPA, until then, Sláinte! 🍻

Thanks as always for stopping by.

Peace Out

Sort:

You have missed us here on the most Southern tip of Africa with your greeting. (Although technically we have English as one of our official languages, so you could say English covered us as well as Hallo, which is quite universal.) In Afrikaans there could be a few greetings but Goeie dag would be the same as Guten Tag you used for the German.

Now added my friend! 👌🍻

Cheers! In my place are popular vans fol selling draft beers from microbreweries. 😎 🍻

It's a good idea actually. If you could combine it with a mobile woodfire pizza oven, you'd have a viable business. Who doesn't love pizza and beer, eh?

I think you may have missed Ceud Mìle Fàilte.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 That photo!! Genius....

I used Dia duit to cover Ireland 😁👌 but I'm well impressed with your knowledge of the Irish vernacular... How did you come to know that expression?

Ages ago when I was a boy my friend Kevin had an Irish grandmother who spoke Gaelic. Kevin's mother translated the greeting as "a hundred thousand smiles to you". I don't know if that is correct but it always struck me as one of the nicest greetings I ever got.
