How I Heat My Homestead With ONLY Wood

Living up north the cold front has snapped in and with it a huge demand to get heat pumping into this homestead. Before arriving at my homestead I use to click a few buttons on the thermostat and think nothing of it. Now I find myself braving the cold to chop some wood to fuel the wood stove that heats this home.

I LOVE IT THOUGH!

With all the struggles and challenges the homestead has become something I truly love and cherish every moment. I’ve gotten better at chopping firewood which you can check out in one of my most recent posts on Instagram here > https://www.instagram.com/gubbatv/ it’s all part of learning and growing out here on the homestead and YES I’ve kept all my toes lol

What I’ve really come to love about this heating solution for the homestead is it’s totally off grid. The wood is used to heat the wood stove and these cool heat powered fans then take that warm air then throw it into the HVAC system to heat the rest of the home. You’ll have to check out the video I posts it’s far too complicated to try and explain lol

Having used a fireplace growing up I had a good idea as to starting the fire. What I didn’t know was what the 1-5 pulley was at the bottom of the wood stove. Only later to come find out it’s to regulate how much air flow is within the stove. A 5 fully pulled out allows for more air and a hotter faster burn while a 1 I use at night for a slower burn that lasts through the night.

I still find myself waking up super early to chop more wood to put into the stove but that’s ok my puppy Kintla always is awake ready to go anyways!

I’ve come to love the wood stove and how it operates. It also gives me things to do around the homestead to keep active since I no longer go to the gym. I’ve also found it good for the mind as I get lost in the views and in my thoughts walking around on the property.

My end goal is to become totally self sufficient and this wood stove heating solution brings me one step closer to that!

Coziest way possible! I miss grandma's fireplace. Now it's all electric heaters everywhere, meeeh.

Yuck I always dislike the electric baseboard heaters. I love the smell it gives off just something so unique about it.

Three words: Hydraulic wood splitter

I've thought about it! Right now I'm waiting on a maul that I'm not sure will ever come lol

I'd walk 1000 miles to a Home Depot, pick one up, then drag it home, during a blizzard, uphill, while hungry, and still be convinced I saved myself a lot of time, pain, and agony.

So worth it.

That is awesome!! Growing up in the Bay Area, in CA, we had a wood-burning stove. It was mainly just to heat the family room. But it was so awesome. My dad was a wood hoarder. Anytime someone was cutting down a tree in the neighborhood, he would find a way to collect the wood haha.

lol I feel like a wood hoarder there's three huge piles on the property right now

lol awesome! :)
