Music is magic

This may be my brain

But, the puns and anxiety areas should be 20% bigger also, more on the lyrics side as well.
I went down the YouTube rabbit hole today. It's always a pleasant trip down memory lane. Back when the music was better, I was younger and life was a lot simpler.
It's funny, although not in a haha way, well maybe it is?
There are days I can't recall what I had for lunch or why I went into that same room 10 times. Part of it is aging which happens to the best of us. Another part of it is, and even though I never had it, we cancer survivors call it chemo brain. A swiss cheese effect happens. Mine is from 2 different bouts with cancer, one with 18 rounds of radiation treatment, one with just surgery. In some ways that escape me, my blood chemistry has been irrevocably altered. This in turn affects my memory.
I heard a song today I hadn't heard in probably 20 years or more. Without realizing it, I was singing along. I remembered every. single. word. How does that happen? What is it about music that does this for us?
There have been times I have had crippling depression. Days when I had no desire to leave the couch and do anything. But, turn on the right music, and some kind of change comes over me. It motivates and uplifts. At the same time it can bring about sadness when a song is tied to an event, or just really sad. Maybe musicians are not modern day magicians weaving a spell from lyrics and musical notes that capture and possibly enrapture us. Short of that, I am at a loss as to how they do what they do to us. I am not a musician, unless you count a short summer school class where I learned a few songs for guitar. I am no great singer. I have improved my abilities by constantly practicing and challenging myself and what I can do. If we measure with that standard, then my "talent" has improved 100 fold from singing doowop with my buddies on a construction site when I was 18. I know, on some level, I can no longer hit those golden high notes. It doesn't stop my brain from saying, "Oh go ahead, you can do it".
I saw a video of a former ballerina. She is now suffering from Alzheimer's. They played music for her and she was transformed and transported back to her youth. See? Magic. There really is little else that can explain it.
What music means the most to you? What song or song can you hear a million times and still enjoy it as much as that first time you heard it? For me, it would be most any old Beach Boy song (I know most of those lyrics as well).

Please, if you are so inclined, leave a comment below and let me know what music you love.
As always, just my .02¢ worth. YMMV
Keep rockin 🤘🎸🎼
