Covid-19 has killed more than 3 lakh people all over the globe and it is also killing people indirectly even without infecting them. Those who are advocating for the strict lock down should consider the incident of suicide of a promising Bollywood actor. He was none other than Sushant Singh Rajpoot, who was from Bihar. He was born in 1986. He worked in many popular television serials like 'Kis Desh Mein Hoga Mera Dil,'Pavitra Rishta', etc. After making his presence in television, he moved to Bollywood and became famous there as well. His movies like 'Raabta', 'MS Dhoni', 'Kai Po Che', 'Kedarnath', 'Chhichhore', etc. gave him name, fame and money. His family had recently revealed that he was to marry in November with his girlfriend. So, he had a better and promising future as well in many aspects.
What went wrong with him?
He had name, fame and money, and that everything which a middle class lad expects. He had a good family, good friends and a large fan following. He was about to marry with his girlfriend. So, what went wrong with him? Why did he committed suicide despite of having everything?
Police is currently investigating the matter but, police is still clueless as he had not left any suicide note. But, it is clear that he was reeling under depression. He was under treatment for last six months in a famous hospital of Mumbai. Earlier this month his former manager Disha Salian had committed suicide. Naturally it made him sad and also aggravated his depression. Last time he wrote a poem in the memory of his mother whom he lost when he was a still a child. It was clear sign of the level of his depression. So, the depression took its victim and left us in a state of shock and despair.
Is this the only suicide in the last few months?
This is not the first incident in a few months. We have seen deaths of some famous actors like Rishi Kapoor, Irfan Khan etc. But, those were deaths. After the lock down television actor and actress Manmeet Grewal and Sejal Sharma has also committed suicide. They were financially struggling. Television and Cinema make a big industry in India. Lakhs of people are involved in it. They get job and money from it. It is not just an industry of entertainment but, it is also an industry which creates jobs and pays taxes to government. Covid-19 pandemic has stopped all the activities of those industries. Now, many are on the brink of committing suicide. They have no choice as they are financially destroyed by the lock down. This is only a few examples. Corona virus has not killed so many people as the lock down has killed. Many business are closed. Many people have lost their jobs and they are financially ruined. Many laborers lost their life while travelling to their home town and native villages. Many committed suicide. Many businessmen and middle class employees committed suicide with family. This is just the beginning, what comes next will shock the world. I am pretty sure that lock down and financial problems will force many to commit suicide. Governments are busy in making people fool. They think that people should not die of Corona rather they are happy to kill people in another way. We can fight with corona but, we cannot fight against collapse of the economy. Poverty and depression will kill more people than the outbreak of the virus.
This is shocking but, This is not the first incident, and will not be the last one.
This is the sad story of the present world. We only can pray for the arrival of the better time but, the better time seems to come too late. However, we have no choice but to be optimistic. Otherwise, we'll die much before our death. There is no room for despair and dejection. Only the tough one will survive. I am also hopeful that the things will become normal again.
