Short Poetry #20 - 21: "LOVE IN THE SHADOWS" and "WHY ONLY NOW"

in OCD3 years ago

It's been more than two months since I wrote something for this series. I have written several longer poems the past weeks, though. Anyway, I'm glad to update this and I hope you enjoy the two short poetry pieces I prepared. :)

Before I show you the poems, I'd like to say that these pieces were inspired by another BL comics called "Be Sweet To Me". I wrote this in the perspective of the main character who was in love with his best friend, but gave up because he thinks it's impossible for them to be together... and later on found the love he has been longing for.

The other poem was in the perspective of the best friend, who was so oblivious even of his own feelings. It was late for him to realize and admit what he actually feels. So, here they are!

POEM #20: LOVE IN THE SHADOWS

For years, I've considered you my special one
During my darkest days, you were my sun
You brought me warmth, and brightened my day
But just like the sun, your heart was faraway
I gave up, yet found my happiness in the shadows
In the dark, I experienced better today and tomorrows

Sometimes, giving up isn't always a negative thing. There are things that you have to give up in order for greater doors or opportunities to open. There are also relationships, not only love-related, that you have to give up because it has become too toxic and you deserve to have a happier life without them. :)

As for the main character's case, his best friend was his first love. He thought it was a lost case even from the start, so he decided to give up on that love, but continued having his best friend in his life but not as a love interest. He then found someone who he thinks is a better match for him.

POEM #21: WHY ONLY NOW?

You've been special to me since the day we met
But there's this sole thing I'll forever regret
The moment I realized that I have feelings for you
Was the very time you admitted you like someone, too
Unfortunately, that someone isn't me
Left with no choice, but set you free

@tegoshei

It's pretty annoying when we realize things too late. We couldn't help but regret a lot of things. Other times, we are aware of our feelings, but we are constantly in denial. We are too scared to take risks... we're scared to get hurt. For some people, they take something or someone for granted. They're too lax and has this mindset of "He/She will always be there, so it's OK." and then, they just realize or acknowledge the real value of the person or thing when it's gone or when someone else have them.

As for the story, the best friend was just plain oblivious. haha He's straight to begin with and he had a girlfriend in the past. Only recently did he realize the budding feeling that he has for the main character... it's when he slowly felt him slipping through his grasp. The main character started to spend less time with him. It was difficult to contact the main character, more so, to see him. And when they finally met and he was ready to confess, the main character blurted he's in a relationship.

I wonder if he'd still have the courage to at least let his friend know how he feels. And I wonder how the other party would react when his first love is now actually in love with him. The story is still ongoing, so we'll see. :)

Anyway, I'll end this post here. I hope you enjoyed my poems! See you!
