Painting My Older Cousin On His Bike... <3

in OCD3 years ago

A few days back, on of my older cousins posted his picture on his social media. He was on his bike and he looked really cool! He's an active athlete. He has joined several trail running events, duathlon and also triathlon. When we were younger, he used to play soccer and basketball at school as well.

A couple years back, I made a drawing of him in anime/manga style. I gave it to him as a birthday gift and he really liked it. When he saw my drawings or paintings recently, he asked me to make a drawing of him again. And I told him, I'd practice first because I want to give him something better than last time... well, whatever the outcome, he'd sure appreciate it.

Going back to the picture he posted a few days ago... when I saw it, I had this urge to draw or paint it. I was kind of busy that time, so I just saved his photo and decided to draw yesterday when I finally had some time to spare.

My cousin looked so cool in the picture, so I couldn't help but paint him.

As always, I tried to sketch him first using my watercolor pad and pencil. The picture has quite a lot of details. As you may notice, I usually just draw someone's face or portrait style drawings because I suck at drawing the body... but this time, I want to improve and challenged myself.

I honestly wanted to draw the whole bike, but I couldn't estimate the space correctly. I was also kind of lazy to re-do the sketch because this was already the second one. I wasn't satisfied with the first attempt, so I threw it away. XD This one is much better except for the bike.

Using my watercolor pencils, the first phase of the coloring process is finally over. I find happiness in coloring and shading. It's as if the process is giving life to my drawing. I still don't have the proper technique, but I have found a way I'm most comfortable in. Also, I noticed that I'm not as impatient as I used to... well, still a bit impatient as I try to do things fast but I feel my progress and change, somehow.

Here comes the second phase of the coloring process. That is, blending the colors using water. I used three various types of paint brushes for this. I'm really glad to receive them last Christmas. I keep on saying this, but I'm truly grateful and it makes painting much easier... especially the minute details.

Of course, I also placed my username, date yesterday and my signature on the artwork. I feel so proud because I usually just draw anime fanarts, but now, I'm trying to improve and work on various things. It's challenging and fulfilling in so many ways.

Above are pictures of my drawing table, the final output and my obligatory selfie with the artwork! And if you're curious about the reference picture, let me show you below...

Credits to Viper Shots for this awesome picture of my cousin. They really captured his moment well. I want to draw more in the coming days! I think I really am doing well with my New Year's Resolution of drawing more and improving myself at it. Although it's not that good yet, but I'm improving somehow. I feel so satisfied with my works recently. <3

Please continue to support me and feel free to give some advice. I'd appreciate it! :) Have a great one and see you around! ^^ It's time for work now! ^^
