A couple days after my birthday, one of my friend's daughters also celebrated hers. So, as a birthday present, we gave her some ice cream to share with her friends and also I made an artwork for her.
Her mother, who's my high school bff, always supports me as a frustrated artist. Her brother-in-law enjoys painting but doesn't have the time to do so anymore, so he planned to throw away his art materials. When my friend knew about it, she decided to give them to me instead. So, I got some acrylic paints and other stuff from her. Also recently, she gave me a lot of paint brushes.
She's really supportive of my passion for drawing. So, as thanks, I wanted to draw for her and her kids. I'm still practicing though, but ones I get much better, I'll make them something good!
Anyway, I still tried to make something for her little girl, Lada.
I created this last March 17th, a day before this little lady's birthday. She's really cute and a fashionista. <3 Now, I'll share the drawing process below.
To get the proportions right, I outlined the base form first. I'm not good at this, but I'm trying. :)
Next, I added the main outline and cleaned it before adding more of the details. Since I'm going to use watercolor pencils in making this, I decided not to use art pens to trace it.
First coloring is done! As mentioned earlier, I used watercolor pencils in coloring this artwork. I like mixing various shades especially on the skin or face. I especially enjoy coloring the face because at first, it's as if I was putting on makeup. Reminds me of contouring. I haven't put on makeup in a long time, though. However, I realized putting on makeup is another form of art. Also, I'm not very keen on details like patterns and stuff, but I tried to recreate the floral pattern on this little lady's dress. I should practice drawing flowers and the like. lol
Next, let's add some water to the formula to transform it into a painting. YAY~!!!
It really becomes prettier when all the colors are blended with water, right? It's also very amusing to do. When it comes to drawing or painting, coloring or blending would be my favorite part. I enjoy playing with colors. In the past, I just use a dark shade and a lighter shade... but now, I mix in several shades to get the result that I like.
Lastly, I took out the masking tape on the sides and wrote my username, signature and the date on the artwork. It was a fun and interesting activity. I want to draw or paint more in the days to come.
I want to try using acrylic or poster paints, too... but maybe when I have more time. It gets kind of messy when I use them, so I settle for watercolor pencils for now. I'm running out of some colors, though. haha
Anyway, I'll continue practicing in the days to come. I'll continue my practice sketches, too... I often post my random sketches on my microblog @harulovesanime on @dbuzz. :) So, please check them out as well.
I'll end this post here. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Until next time!!! <3
