Under the Sea (oil pastel art)

in Sketchbook3 years ago

It was a work day today, but for some reasons 2 of my students were absent, so I got the chance to draw or paint something using oil pastel. Somehow, I'm enjoying this style especially when it comes to mixing and playing with colors and creating silhouette of some details. This is my fourth oil pastel art so far. And for this piece, I decided to create an under the sea scene.:)

Kyaaaa~! I'm actually quite happy with the result... anyway, before I talk more about it, let me show you the process as to how I came up with this artwork.

I taped the sides on my sketchpad, so I can work on it either on my small table or computer desk. I'm using my oil pastel as well as some tissue for blending and my calligraphy pens. :) Now that everything is set, let's start!

I arranged the colors this way. The darkest one represents the deeper part of the sea while the lightest color represents the surface and the sunlight seeping through it. After I arranged the colors, I then blended them using some tissue paper. :)

As you can see above, there were still some very visible white spots at the center, so to cover it up, I had to adjust the colors and keep blending them until I find the image I'm looking for. :)

Now, this is much better, so I got ready with my pens for the details. :)

I created some rocks and corals on the darkest corner and various sizes of marine creatures. I played with their sizes so you'd imagine whether they are near or far. :)

I then took out the masking tapes and wrote my username and signature. It looks so cute. <3 I'm happy with it.

I showed this to my parents and they liked it. Funny thing though, I pointed at the seahorse and asked papa what he thinks it is and he answered, "It's a horse with no name!" Mama and I laughed. He's really crazy... isn't that a song title? haha

Anyway, I especially like how the colors blended since it's how I imagined it would be. Yaaaay!

It's the weekend, so I'll try to make some artworks before I become busy again with work. :) I hope you enjoyed this piece. Thanks a lot for checking it out! ^^

PS: I forgot to put this banner in my previous posts. hahaha... so here it is!
