My Baby Snake Plant (oil pastel art)

in Sketchbook3 years ago

About a week ago, I posted a blog regarding my newest baby which is a small indoor snake plant given to me by our neighbor. It's really very cute and it adds beauty to my room. Aside from that, it naturally purifies the air, so it's healthy and nice to have. I always feel so happy simply looking at it. It's relaxing and is also somehow a stress reliever.

Earlier today, I was thinking on what artwork I'm going to make. I've been challenging myself to draw more and more recently. It's difficult to do so during work days, but I could at least make one while watching anime after my classes or maybe in between breaks.

All my students were present today so I didn't have a lot of free time, but I did start making this artwork during my break time and just continued with the details after work. Please welcome, my snake plant art using oil pastel on watercolor pad.

Every time I try making an artwork using oil pastel, I just directly make it without sketching because the sketch can somehow ruin once I started coloring... maybe because my hand isn't light enough when sketching, so there would be pressure on the paper. Anyway, let me show you the process starting from the preparation of materials.

As mentioned earlier, I used oil pastel and watercolor pad... and also some tissue to spread the color. ^^

Everything was just trial and error. I made until this part during my break. It was kind of difficult to figure out how to make the leaves or the plant itself. hahaha So, I decided on putting and mixing various shades of yellow and green. After my classes, I went out to watch anime and continue this artwork. Time to put in more details. ^^

It looks much better than the first one... all that's left to do is to spread the color for the background and add my username as well as my signature! :D

I'm delighted to be able to create another artwork today. I'm slowly choosing subjects that I don't usually draw. I find it challenging and enjoyable at the same time. I'll draw again next time. I wonder what style I'm going to use next... maybe watercolor? It would be quite difficult given the time constraint though. Anyway, we'll see. ^^

Thanks for dropping by on this post, too! Until next time!
