Mt. Fuji and Cherry Blossoms (watercolor painting)

in Sketchbook3 years ago

In my previous blog, I showed the unboxing of the art materials I ordered online. I tried using them for the first time today and I am very happy with the purchase. The watercolor pad was very thick and absorbent, the paint brushes were very nice to use and the watercolor tubes were actually pretty decent. I enjoyed using them.

I was thinking on what to paint first, and I decided to paint the beautiful Mt. Fuji with some cherry blossoms. :)

I like how vibrant the colors are... I'll be showing you the step by step procedure as to how I came up with this artwork. :)

As always, I prepared the materials needed. I decided to use the A5 size watercolor pad since I already opened it during my unboxing last time. I didn't take the A4 size out from its plastic yet, so I'll be using it next time. :) Alongside the pad, I prepared my brushes, watercolor tube and a palette to mix some colors in.

I started with two shades of blue. It'll be the background for the sky and the lake. I just set it this way, but actually, I'll be adjusting the colors again and again until I get the result that I like. :)

I then chose a darker shade of blue for Mt. Fuji. These are all base colors, so adjustments would come later on. :)

At the foot of the mountain, I created some silhouette of trees and some buildings representing some towns or areas nearby. I used two colors to distinguish the trees and the buildings. :)

Then, I started adding some details on the mountain and skies... (which are all still subject to change) I also added some lights in the buildings as well as their reflections on the lake. :)

I then made more adjustments on the sky, the lake and the mountain. Once I'm quite satisfied with it, I started with the next element in this painting. :)

I used a greenish-brown color for the branches and played with red, pink and white for the flowers and petals. It was actually fun creating this piece. I like cherry blossoms and Mt. Fuji, so I really hope to see it someday. For now, I'd settle with painting them. In the future, I'd be able to see the real thing. :)

Anyway, my painting is done, so let's take out the masking tapes I placed around it.

ASMR feels... hahaha The paper was soooo good! It wasn't affected by the masking tapes at all unlike in my previous watercolor pad! <3 Well, I'd still be using the previous pad, but I'm thinking of drawing borders around each paper instead of using masking tapes. This way, my paper won't die in the process. haha Yep, I'd still be using it... it would be a waste of money not to. ^^ Anyway, let's continue. :)

Finally, I added my username and signature on it. :)

All in all, I'm so glad of the result. I'm glad to use the materials I purchased last time and I'm happy with their quality so far. Well, I don't know much about brands and stuff, but I like them... I actually chose a much cheaper watercolor but with good reviews, so yeah... I'm curious with other products, but they're too pricey for my level. haha Maybe when I become much better at painting? lol

I hope you like this artwork of mine. :) Until next time! (^_^)/
