ESCAPISM: Another World (watercolor + markers art)

in Sketchbook2 years ago

Have you ever daydreamed or thought of escaping reality and live in a world where you can relax and stay away from all the things that's happening in your life? I have and today, I tried depicting this world through art.

During my break time at work, I decided to create an artwork. Initially, I wanted to use watercolor or paint, but it would mean messier work space. Also, it takes me more time when I create a much detailed artwork using watercolor. So, what I did is utilize some watercolor for the background and marker pens for the main subject.

I have always been fascinated with the thought of living in an island that floats in the sky. It reminds me of Sorajima and Weatheria (One Piece), Laputa: Castle in the Sky (Ghibli) and Sword Art Online's world in season one.

So in this world I created, I connected the main island where my house is located to a smaller island which has a portal. Through this portal, I'd be able to teleport from one world to another anytime I want. i'm not keen on commuting or taking any means of transportation, so portals would be awesome to have.

I've been longing to go to a peaceful and refreshing place. Somewhere surrounded by nature, but for now, I'd settle with this. haha

Anyway, allow me to share some of the progress shots I took while making this artwork.

I just played with whatever color that I want as the background. I wanted it to look more of a fantasy place, so I chose various colors instead of the usual blue sky.

Once the background is dry, I sketched how I wanted my fantasy world would look like.

Using some markers, I drew the main island and the hanging bridge which connects it to the other island where the portal is located.

As for the island where the portal is located, I chose brighter colors for it to give it some magic feels.

As for the portal, I drew a crescent moon and a star in it. My younger cousin Nicole gave me a necklace the pendant of which is similar to this. I just added some wings to my drawing. Also, I placed it under a torii, which represents a gate to another world. :)

I just added some minute details... and it's done!

After taking out the masking tape surrounding it, I added my username and signature. Ahh~ I'm so happy with how it turned out. My markers look really good on a watercolor paper.

I may use this combination more in the days to come. It was fun to make. Also, I didn't finish everything on my break from work, so I continued making the artwork after my last class. :)

I'm really happy with it. I hope to live in such a world someday. haha
Anyway, I'll end my post here. I hope you like my art work. See you around! (^^,)/
