Durbar Spirit Northern Figure Study
This drawing captures the commanding presence of a northern horseman, inspired by the vibrant Durbar festival a cultural celebration deeply rooted in northern Nigeria’s heritage.
With quick pencil strokes and bold bursts of color, I aimed to echo both the regality and rhythm of this tradition. The layered turban, the grip on the reins, and the calm yet firm gaze speak of history, pride, and strength.
In this study, I wasn’t just drawing a figure I was chasing the soul of a culture. Through gesture, cloth, and posture, I wanted to preserve the dignity and drama of a moment that reflects centuries of tradition and identity.
