Last Saturday, Dec 20, 2025, I went to the HobbyCon at the Festival Mall. The event ran from Dec 19-21. Aside from wanting to stretch my legs, I also wanted to see a seller friend who was exhibiting at the event and area for the first time.
Aside from the said seller, there were also a handful of members from the toy community, all of whom I met in person for the first time but have been interacting with online for years.
The event exhibitors, as expected at this venue, are mostly anime toy sellers. Not much offerings for collectors of articulated figures like me.
As usual with events like this, cosplayers also roam the area. There was also a singing contest for these attendees.
Cosplayers of course did their usual thing of posing for photographers. I wonder how much money cosplayers and photographers earn from these gigs.
Arguably, gracing events such as this wouldn't be complete without at least one toy haul, preferably more. So despite a tight budget, I made do with a Marvel Select Sabretooth. Not the ideal Sabretooth representation in terms of poseability, but it sure does have an excellent sculpt and overall design. I just don't like the fact that he is permanently crouched down. This made me dust off my older Hasbro Marvel Select Sabretooth which has a much wider range of motion due to its more numerous joints. The ML ST, however, doesn't have the menacing face I am looking for. I have been on the hunt for the perfect Sabretooth for a while now, and I guess the hunt isn't over yet.
Upon exiting the parking lot after the event, I was quite puzzled with the directional signs. The ramp upwards has a sign saying "No Entry," while the exit going down has both an "Exit" sign and a "No Exit" sign. I guess the latter is for those who opt to go straight ahead towards the fence down towards certain death.
Upon going home, I decided to eat a Super Meal A from the ever-famous insect fastfood.
Meeting good friends, getting a nice collectible, eating a decent meal, and having interesting experiences (even if mundane) make me happy to be alive!
