When a plastic cup slips from ones hand and lands on the floor. Nothing really happens. The shape, structure and every other thing about it maintains it's original shape.
When a glass cup slips amd falls to the ground, it breaks into pieces and it really can't be easily assembled. It would take a lot to put it into place.
When promises are broken, which of the two instances do you think would happen.
Personally, I think the latter would prove eminent because it was beyond what was said it's now about who you are.
When you make promises, the person promised is banking on the person who promised, so when that promise is broken, trust is shattered and like the glass cup it won't be easy to build up. It would take a lot.
Laugh all you want but I'm going to still talk about my disappointment with my Uncle who promised to buy me a bicycle if I came first in class.
Previously, I always came fourth position in class. The competition was so strong. It almost seemed as if, if a person doesn't read for a day, you were joking with your life. Even as I came fourth in class, with my average if I had been in another class, I would definitely come first.
In my school due to how praise worthy we were, the proprietor thought it wise to move all the best students into one class. Since we stepped into primary three, they had been watching all the good student. Immediately, we clocked primary six, we were all moved to a class.
Every student who came from first to tenth in the three classes were moved to one class. If we should compare with average, the student who came twentieth in my class could even be first in another class.
This procedure benefitted the school because it made students work really hard to make it to the guru class. And the ones who didn't make it were also lucky because they had a shot at getting the first position.
"I will buy you a bicycle if you come first in the guru class." My Uncle said over the phone as my Dad had downloaded my life story to him in just three minutes.
A very short lived life I had then.
My Dad was so happy that I made it to the guru class but my results were not so pleasing because I always came fourth. My average was clocking 93.6 and I still came fourth.
My Dad was both proud and a little disappointed too. I could only imagine what he would do if I came first in class. Just making it to the guru class, he had to give testimony in church. It was embarrassing, though I was grateful to God too.
All the other parents saw me like a book warm and was advising their children to befriend me. What was more annoying was that Justice who in the future was coming first in the guru class was also a member of my church.
"Daddy, that was embarrasing, Justice's Dad didn't even testify about Justice and you did for me." I had asked my Dad when we arrived home that Sunday afternoon.
"Maybe they are not as happy as I am." He replied as he gave my mum the proud look he always wore.
Justice's Dad started giving his testimony when Justice started coming first in the guru class. Which really made me more embarrassed. As parents started telling their children make Justice your friend but if he says no, you can now make Obinna your friend.
I was a backup plan.
After many efforts and sleepless nights because of the promised bicycle, I read and read till my Mum advised me that even though I came last she would still be proud of me.
She said that so I could eat and sleep well because I was starting to make her worry.
It all paid off because in my final class. Third term of primary six, I came first.
I was so happy because finally I would get my bicycle.
My Dad had other plans for me. On Saturday night, out tailor brought some clothes.
"What are these for, honey?" My mum asked.
"It's for my testimony tomorrow." He said as he began unrapping the package. He made new clothes for the both of us to wear tomorrow to church.
This was the final term and I secured the last win.
That Sunday I couldn't believe all I heard with my ears. At some point I started wondering if my Dad exchanged roles with my Mum.
He was so excited that even before calling my uncle, he bought me the bicycle himself.
He didn't make any promises but he kept to the one made.
Thanks for reading❤️❤️❤️.
