The most weirdest thing you would do is being caught in the act.
Just imagine going to the pot in the kitchen to take an extra meat and whilst your hand is in the pot, your mum caught you in the act.
You would actually be a fool to even try to make an excuse.
My situation was similar to this, just a little worse.
The only difference was that the meat was already close to my mouth while the pot cover was in my left hand.
It was so clear that i had take the meat.
I didn’t actually know if to put the meat in my mouth or return it.
I thought of two possibilities;
"If i return the meat back into the pot, my mum would still flog me for stealing."
"And if i eat the meat i would still be flogged for stealing."
In this two scenerio, i didn’t see myself walking out unscath, so i chose the wiser option.
Which was to be flogged for actually eating the meat.
Just imagine a scenario where i didn’t eat the meat and would still be flogged.
I put the meat in my mouth and my mum stood there speechless.
At some point, she sstarted laughing because she knew exactly the thought that crossed my mind in that short while.
She never forgot that experience, she used it often put me in check.
She didn’t actually didn’t flog me, she reported me to my Dad.
We all already know what happened.
One evening, we had been preparing for a celebration all day. It was my Dad's birthday and he had travelled and was coming from that same day.
We had planned a big surprise.
Since my Dad doesnt eat meat, my mum always fried fish for him. I and the rest eat meat.
When my Dad finally arrived and the small celebration started. My mum rushed to go dish his favorite food and she observed that the fried fish wasnt in the stew.
"Someone ate my fish."
"Zuko Benjamin, Idara Benjamin, Blaze Benjamin, the three of you should come here now."
We all know what happens when you parents call your full names. It never ends well.
I was already wondering what had happened.
We all finally arrived at the kitchen at the same time.
"Mum, whats wrong?" Blaze asked.
"Which of you took the fish i kept for your Dad in this stew." She asked.
Blaze and Idara quickly answerred negatively and maybe because i wasn't as quick to answer like my siblings. I became the most likely person to have taken the fish.
"Zuko, did you take the fish?" She asked.
"No, mum i didnt take the fish." I replied quickly this time.
She gave me this knowing look that i quickly understood like we've been here before.
You know this things parents say to reassure you that you won't be punished if you admit your crimes.
That was the next stage my mum arrived at
When she noticed i wasn't bugging, she threatened to tell my Dad.
Thinking it would compel me to talk out of fear.
I personally was concerned how i became the only suspect to the crime.
"Mum, i didnt take any fish." I sternly responded.
My Dad heard the argument and came to the kitchen to inquire what was delaying his meal.
"Whats going on here?" He asked.
My mum in five seconds briefed my Dad that i had taken his fish was denying it.
Again i was bewildered as to how i became the only suspect.
My siblings also involved themselves urging me to admit.
"Mummy already said, she won't beat you, just admit it, Zuko."
At this point, was already tearing up because it seemed nobody was on my side.
After a few seconds of going back and forth, my Dad looked up th counter and saw the covered plate, where my mum had kept the fish after she had fried it.
It happened that she forgot to put it into the stew when she was done frying.
The house was quiet.
For a few minutes, i understood that my mother was still holding my past mistakes against me.
Without the benefit of the doubt.
I didnt celebrate that day because my heart was broken.
My mum apologised over and over again b it wasnt really an apology that would solve the issue.
Not every fire is quenched using water.
Thanks for stopping by.
I hope you enjoyed it.
