There has been an almost secret opportunity to gain massive amount of value in @splinterlands called the Mystery Potions. I have occasionally bought potions but was unable to continue to do it indefinitely as I had limited amount of funds. It cost 1200 DEC per day to use Mystery Potions.

The Update you Probably Missed

As the current Mystery Potion special card - the Mighty Dricken - is rapidly approaching its print limit of 90 total cards, we wanted to provide a quick update about the Mystery Potion rewards going forward.
While we like the idea of special, very limited print cards, from a practical perspective it is extremely difficult to design those cards in such a way as to make them very desired and powerful without also giving a big advantage to the small number of players who will ever be able to own them.
As a result, we do not plan to create any new Mystery Potion special cards for the foreseeable future, and will instead be adding other prizes to the available Mystery Potion rewards that will have a relatively similar total value.
Once the Mighty Dricken hits its print limit, the Mystery Potion will start to award land plot claim tokens at a rate of exactly 5 per day for 200 days, for a total of 1,000 land plot claims to be awarded as Mystery Potion prizes.

I learned from @knowledge-seeker that there has only been 1 Gold Foil Mighty Dricken. There will only be 90 Cards in circulation. Here is the current state of Dricken:

After noticing this tremendous opportunity I decided to use some of the DEC I had saved for Land Expansion and spend it on 10+1 Mystery Potions. There are my rewards so far:

I'm diluting my own chances of winning a Mighty Dricken by telling more people to join what is basically a lottery for one of the most valuable cards in @splinterlands which is only going to go up in value thanks to the elimination of further creation of these Promo Cards for Mystery Potion.

At least this would be a way for me to get a Plot of Land if I miss all the pre-sales for being a minnow in a pond of whales :-)
