I like to dig deep into things and cripple myself in too many research. Many of the things I look into do not make it to my articles due to various reasons. I am not going to risk being distracted into something else today. I want people to know about AutoGen and GPT-4V (not GPT-5). This is a quick overview on the project. You may have already envisioned something similar despite your inability to code such a thing into existence. I know I have, and that is why I am this excited.
Why AI Agents is a Game Changer
We already know some AI are better than others. For an example, DALL-E is worse than Midjourney on practically every single experience I have come across. Sometimes I find Stable Diffusion to be better DALL-E. Combining pieces of different AI and creating a final product can take a significant amount of prompt engendering. What would happen if there were AI that can automate part of this prompt engineering?
Improvements Have Diminishing Returns
Take a look at the games or VFX released right now versus what came 10 years prior. Now compare what was available 20 years prior. Then go back 30 years and finally go back 40 years.
What would happen if the famous lightcycle scene was to be recreated by a person who is on his first day of learning Blender? We have results from 3 years ago.
There is a clear difference in what could be achieved then versus now. But another very important factor is the technological leaps being smaller and smaller. Take a look at what came to the top of VFX 11 year after Tron (1982).
This was 10 more years later and Avatar (2009) came only 6 years later. The leap from one decade to another become smaller and smaller in a very noticeable way.
Creating Interoperability Can Make Wonders
After a point, greater things can be achieved through combining different techniques and stitching them into a single package. We have had computer vision for a long time. I have seen many Product Hunt posts that have AI that can identify plants, flowers, animals etc. We have had GPT for a while and seen what it can do. Combining the two has a gestalt effect where the result is far more powerful than the sum of the two tools.
GPT-4V(ision) is a True Convenience
Eventually there will be open source models that can be locally run to achieve similar results. We don't have to completely hand over our decisions and workflows to companies like Open AI and Microsoft. The most important factor to consider is that the future of AI will have a lot to do with combining existing technologies to come up with new products and services. Whatever you thought you could automate with AI was likely an underestimation.
One of the great things about the rapid evolution of the space is that news of few months ago could be completely outdated today. For those who are looking to engage with the AI technologies and businesses, points of entries keep happening. Use these game changing events to your advantage!
