LeoAds is a Step Towards Antifragility With Zero Downsides to HIVE Ecosystem

Incentives are one of the most important things to consider in both free markets and good governance. Incentives are a more civilized method of getting individuals to act in specific ways. There is no need for fear and coercion when there are intelligently designed systems and sensible people using them.

Free Markets Favor Win - Win Scenarios

When there is no threat of violence, individuals are can pursue their own best interests. Tribalism can create short term hype and various forms of maximalism. Sooner or later, those tribes end up being toxic. For an example, take a look at BTC maximalists and the damage they have caused. They can be blinded by hate to a point where I have seen them claim $ETH is worse than fiat. Builders are going to build and come up with more utility for decentralized ledgers and I expect to see BTC dethroned as the #1 in marketcap.

Fiat, TradFi and Government Coercion is The Real Enemy

There are many opinions and methods to work on this. Some projects focus on privacy. DarkFi offers one important solution. This is how they define themselves:

DarkFi is a new Layer 1 blockchain, designed with anonymity at the forefront. It offers flexible private primitives that can be wielded to create any kind of application. DarkFi aims to make anonymous engineering highly accessible to developers.

DarkFi uses advances in zero-knowledge cryptography and includes a contracting language and developer toolkits to create uncensorable code.

In the open air of a fully dark, anonymous system, cryptocurrency has the potential to birth new technological concepts centered around sovereignty. This can be a creative, regenerative space - the dawn of a Dark Renaissance.

HIVE is taking a different approach giving its users a platform for true free speech that does not have to rely on a guy who pretends to be a free speech absolutist (I'm referring to Elon Musk). @threespeak and @dkux are working on offering even more avenues for free expression.

Games like @splinterlands provide one of the best ways to onboard new users to blockchain by offering them a fun game where users get to own their assets. @vsc.network is working on bringing smart contracts to one of the most decentralized blockchains on the planet. There are many ways to fight for the good. You should focus on what you think of as the best path and start contributing with skin in the game.

LeoAds Make InLeo Front End Special

Until recently, front ends were exclusively a matter of personal preference. Some like @ecency, some like @peakd, Some stick with specialized front ends that serve a specific niche. @dalz publish statistics on popular front ends. None of them pay the authors. The rewards come from HIVE inflation + Tribe Tokens based on upvotes received. This is a great system! That should not stop ourselves from looking into more sources of revenue.

Non HIVE Users Can Now Reward HIVE Authors

I'm against making changes to the existing system of distributing rewards. It is a healthy system where nobody is treated as an adversary. LeoAds is adding a new reward pool on top of the existing rewards. Nobody is going to loose anything. If you use Brave Browser (best overall browser in the market), you will have to go out of your way to even see ads. Native ads that look like content can manage to not be intrusive.

Revenue gained from the ads will then be distributed to those who have published content through InLeo front ends + those who are staking $LEO. Follow @leofinance for more information on the specifics. Take a look at @leoads account for the transactions of the ad protocol. @gadrian asked some good questions and wrote a good article on LeoAds. What happens at the end is that InLeo has become the best front end to link to. When visitors come and view/click on ads, authors and investors receive $LEO Rewards.

Other Front Ends Are Not Losing Ad Revenue

In fact they may even attract some users who don't like the idea of website monetized by ads (which require some from of tracking). That is perfectly fine. Nobody is locked in and they are free to shop around the free market. If a front end is not monetizing those who don't have HIVE accounts, they won't be losing any revenue when the links point to InLeo. Other front ends could come up with their own ad schemes and if the code can be made open source (or at least shared among the projects), it could be a massive win for $HIVE.

$LEO is Bought on The Open Market

LeoAds is tapping into a brand new revenue pool and using that revenue to buy $LEO. This is good news for the price and more website visit should translate to more buying pressure. At the same time this process will enable rewarding authors who manage to become popular outside of the beautiful silo we have crated on HIVE. Rewarding different types of contributions incentivize different types of contributions to a project. That will make us stronger in many ways.

Envision a Bear Market With Many Readers

Source

Readers do not change their habits based on cryptocurrency market cycles. Their reading habits are independent from what $BTC or $ETH is doing. InLeo has even let go of focusing on the finance niche. Being uncorrelated with rest of the market allows @leofinance to be antifragile (or at least extremely resilient). We need this!

Happy Hiving!

Thanks for the mention, @vimukthi!

Yes, LeoAds should be helpful directly to INLEO users and indirectly to the whole Hive ecosystem and other front ends, since this is external funds flowing in. And you are right, users who hate ads may choose one of the other interfaces as an alternative. Even though, there is a midway: not liking ads and advertisers, but liking the share of the revenue you receive from them, indirectly, via LeoAds, and thus accepting them in this case.

I am taking the middle way out of love for @leofinance project. I expect the same from most of the $LEO investors. Most outsiders visiting may not care about ads either. They are used to seeing ads everywhere all the time.

I agree and I fall into the same category. I don't like ads (or rather advertisers), especially if they are "in your face" and because of the tracking reasons, but revenue sharing I guess makes it bearable.
