FinCEN: The biggest money launderer are banks, not cash or crypto 😂 BUT politicians could frame this to extend surveillance and further limit civil rights 🤐

English

Investigative journalists have uncovered a large money laundering scandal, and reported how major banks help major customers to launder money.

The biggest money laundering vehicle is not cash, not even crypto, but banks 😂

It would be naïve to only blame banks. In reality, the banking system is already the largest public-private surveillance system ever.

Transactions are already fully monitored and reported to the state if suspicions arise. Transactions and accounts can be frozen any moment. FinCEN is more about oligarchs and billionaires. This is a different league. Banks are only the means to an end. Suspicious transactions were actually reported in many cases, but the state authorities were unable or unwilling to follow up every single report. Corruption and bribery are probably also involved.

There is a danger that these leaks will be misused by politicians to expand the surveillance state even further, not against oligarchs but against normal citizens.

A very good commentary also by Andreas Antonopoulos on FinCEN, who thinks that the scandal may be used against cryptocurrencies and lead to even more surveillance.

What do you say about the FinCEN files? Are there more surveillance and repression against cryptocurrencies coming?

Are there more surveillance and repression against cryptocurrencies coming?

Sure, wherever is smell of fresh blood, sharks are about to come ;)
