I am very fond of ships on coins.
I know that many people share this fondness. I have a few coins depicting ships.
So, I will post a series called "Ships on Coins" and I will show all the coins that I have on this theme.
There will be no order of presentation or country of issue. As the coins are stored in several places, I will simply search on each place and publish those that I found.
The seventh is a 2012 CAD $10 "Titanic".
It weights 15.87g with 99.99% silver purity, Proof finish. Its mintage was 20,000 units and the issue price was CAD $64.95.
The tragic fate of RMS Titanic has long captivated the world’s imagination. It is a story of doom rendered perhaps more tragic by the hope and beauty with which it began. In an age that measured itself in leaps of “progress,” the story of the Titanic became an instructional tale about fate and hubris—but also about sacrifice and honour. The year 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of this unprecedented steamship’s fateful encounter with an iceberg and Canadians, along with people all around the world, commemorate the lives lost, sacrifices made, and hard lessons gained from this momentous event in our shared history.
The reverse image, designed by Canadian artist Yves Bérubé and engraved by Konrad Wachelko, features a finely detailed image of the bow and port side of the colossal vessel as it travels westward on its tragic maiden voyage, the North Atlantic waters shimmering in its wake. The iceberg that sealed Titanic’s fate lurks in the foreground. The image also features the words “R.M.S. Titanic” and a map of the Canadian Atlantic coast and the nautical coordinates at which Titanic sank.
