Like any other person who's into saving on expenses I always love a good bargain. This means scouting discounts, bonuses, and everything in between. These things usually save you fractions and don't seem as significant, but those fractions add up. Trust me on that. A good way to try and measure the difference is to keep an excel sheet of your daily purchases, and then compare each month with each other. One month without efficient bargaining tactics, and the other with. The monthly difference might surprise you. And who knows, you might even learn a thing or two about where most of your money goes.
One of those savings tactics of mine involves whipping out my calculator every now and then in the stores. Not an actual calculator, but usually the calculator app on my phone. but I wouldn't mind a huge big button calculating machine either. The main purpose of this activity is to compare the different sizes of items of the same product. The price quantity ratio to be specific. If there's a small container of 100 grams of butter for $5 for example, and a 300 gram container of the same butter for $16, I would calculate the price per gram from the smaller one. That would be $5 divided by 100 giving 5 cents per gram. Then I would multiply that by the quantity of the larger one, which results in $15 for 300 grams in this case. If the calculated big-amount price is smaller than the actual store price, than the smaller container is cheaper. If the calculated price is more, than the larger container is cheaper.
This can result in spending more time in the store though. But once you're used to it, things go faster. Some calculations also don't require a machine and can be done in your head of course. Sometimes I may get an awkward stare or two, but I like to believe that those people are admiring my frugal genius at work. They wish they could save the pennies I'm saving, lol.
